In short: Fantastic race, very well organised, with very encouraging marshalls. In full: Set in the lovely Abbey park near the city centre this was a really well organised event and a great race for beginners and those looking for a PB. The route was mainly in the park itself on tarmac tree lined paths with plenty of encouragement from spectators and the marshalls who were fantastic especially the young lad who would shout out your placing in the race as you ran by him. I would definitely do this race again and hope it will become a permanent race on the calendar. Date of review: April 3, 2011
In short: That is some hill!! In full: I knew there was a hill half way round but when I turned the corner and saw it, it went on for a bit longer than expected!! First time I have walked on a 10k run!! The bonus was there was a great downhill very fast section. Date of review: March 4, 2011
In short: Exhilarating downhill sections and great scenery In full: Bitter cold morning for this run. Arrived late and by sheer luck parked just a few metres from the start but race organisation seemed spot on. Route was very enjoyable; impressive scenery, very little traffic, mainly on roads but some pathways. Monster hill around 4-5k, a real knee-shaker that seemed to have no end. But the reward, once the lactic acid burn faded away (and apart from the scenery), was a couple of k's later, around the 7k mark. 1-2k of more or less continuous and VERY fast downhill - exhilarating stuff! Cold wind in your face, legs pumping, and an opportunity to run a couple of seriously fast split k times. Overall PB potential was wiped out by the hill in the 1st half of the race, and overall race time quite slow but seriously good fun. I shall be back for the Feb race!
A couple of other positives: nice to receive gloves at finish; race results online very quickly. Date of review: January 24, 2011
In short: Overall well organised and a good challenge In full: Again (for the second in the series) a challenging run although different from the first run. Confusion at the start for us as we didn't know the start had been moved from last time - how about telling people when they are picking up their numbers? Otherwise as good as the first run though - if you like hills! Date of review: January 22, 2011
In short: Tough Race to start 2011 In full: Well organised great race, which has been postponed twice due to poor weather.Nice to receive gloves and T-shirt at finish. Good winners prizes/money for age groups and 1st/2nd and 3rd lady and men. Very friendly. Date of review: January 4, 2011
In short: A pleasant run which could be improved by better organisation In full: This run follows a very pleasant route that is not very challanging. A number of things could have made it better however.
The biggest problem was the organisation was very amatuer considering we paid a relatively high entrance fee.
There no information posted and so registration and the collection of chips etc relied on a process very reminicent of my school days.
That's fine, but this was the same organisation that carried forwards to to the end of the race. From the finishing line we all had to go through a tent to collect our goodies bag (including water). Unfortuantely they stuck the result board at the end of this tent. This meant we had to wait 10 minutes after finishing the run before we got anything to hydrate ourselves. This really isn't good enough. Date of review: September 14, 2010
