In short: Excellent traffic free varied terrain half In full: Well organised, friendly, scenic, a couple of slight uphills and some bridges and mostly no road surfaces. Quite a good "goody bag". Made a break from all those miles on the road. Blessed by dry conditions. Well done Purple Patch and all the marshalls - very good event. Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: One for the scenery junkies In full: The route follows the river most of the way. Drums around half way were nice touch and a bit of fun. I think if you were looking at trimming your PB by a minute or two, then I think the crowding at the bridges and gates would be enough to take that possibility away. I bettered my time by 35 minutes, so wasn't an issue. There are a few drags, but I wouldn't call them hills. If you couldn't see it went uphill, you wouldn't know- that kind of steepness.
Weather was scorching, but if it was wet, you'd want trail shoes, because almost the whole route is on grass/ pathways.
Overall, I loved it and the organisation is good. Goody bag was ok- water, fruit, medal and a t- shirt.
In short: Great off road Half by the Riverbank of the Thames In full: Perfect conditions, friendly runners and intresting fast course made for a great race day. Bridges, kissing gates and multi terrain surfaces keep you intrested and on your toes until the final mile. Good Job Purple patch! Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: Lovely course, pretty much flat but variety of surfaces make it a bit more challenging, well organised, enthusiastic volunteers, as enjoyable as a half marathon can be, Date of review: March 26, 2012
