In short: Not quite a Grim as expected....
In full: Good event and will definitely do it next year. The track is a lttle more user friedly than some similar events so my vote would be for: more filth, longer stretches of cargo nets and a couple of testing features on the relatively flat 2 miles between miles 5 and 7.

In short: Fun, but overpriced
In full: £25, for an 'extreme' XC race. Hmmm Ive done more challenging races. Entered as part of a team, so was more a social race for me, but for £25 you didnt 'get' much. Chip timed, and a t shirt. It was fun and very wet, however I wouldnt rush back as I have entered similar races that are less than half the cost (sodbury slog anyone!?) which I think are much 'better'.

In short: Lives up to expectations of being wet, muddy and fun.
In full: Must admit that on waking to driving rain and wind I did wonder if I was wise to race at all! Weather had cleared up by the time we got to the event though which was well signposted and parking was plentyful. Organisationally not too bad really, I had an issue with my entry which were easliy resolved via a quick email and the same with the race day organisation overall. I did however think this was let down with the free for all start. At various stages there were bottle necks as people waded through the pools, this could possibly have been avoided by having two or even three staggered starts a few minutes apart. The race itself though was fun and as was advertised aimed at mixed abilities, I did feel I'd run more challenging races this year such as Hellrunner. My only gripe is the entry fee, £26 is a bit steep for a t-shirt and sum mud, I've entered races this year with as much organisation for as little as £8, a goodie bag would maybe make it seem like better value for money.

In short: Simply great fun
In full: If you run races for the T-shirt at the end you need to get out more. Personally the sense of achievement at the end was enough for me. As a newcomer I loved it and has spurred me on to enter more
races. Lots of mixed abilities which was great especially if like me you are at the slower end of the scale.

In short: An experience
In full: Being primarily a triathlete, I volunteered for the work team. I treated it as a bit of off-season fun, not taking it too seriously, starting at the back, bit getting too competitive etc.
Yes it was challenging, but all good fun with it. For those that want something more, try a proper fell race.
One minor gripe though - I'm fed up of people banging on about technical t-shirts. Cotton is just fine, and if you don't like the shirt, it makes a great duster/ bike cleaning rag/ etc.

In short: muddy, watery fun for all!
In full: my first ever GRIM run and i thought it lived up to its status as the 'fun + welcoming' off-road mud-race. Car parking was ample, organisation seemed very smooth. With such a large field it was alwasy going to be slow at the back but i'm not sure such a 'fun' event needs timing pens or anything serious, it might detract from the overall fun. The course was 'friendly' in some ways because it was extremely flat, and with such a silly amount of mud/pools slowing you down, i didn't hear of anyone getting blisters. It was far less challenging than the SaabSalomon X-Trails (which are sadistic by comparison). Overall it was great fun and do-able by anyone who could complete 8 miles in the park. T-shirts a waste of time/money sorry; unwearable shape for women and pretty dorky (huge bold design) for the guys. (subtle) technical ones could have looked stunning and desirable, OR, simply save on the entrance fee and scrap them.
