In full: bag drop poor and unsecure, 800+bags left in a muddy field.bus service awful pre-paid £3 but ended up getting a taxi back for £30 or face a wait of 1hr+.i have run 100+ races and this was the first time i had to stop due to an injury.recovery system was non-existent and i was told to walk 4m back to start or walk to finish! it was freezing and i had to wait 25mins before i cadged a lift to finish! In short: Without a doubt the worsed organised event I have ever done In full: Enough people have already mentioned the bagagge and bus situation, add to that random pens based on simply colour of your number, so fast runners stuck at the back, a pointless half lap of a track then funnelled into a footpath followed by industrial estate for the first 3-4 miles. Not sure the company behind this, but they clearly do not know how to manage a race! Date of review: October 28, 2012
In short: Change the location, make sure the Finish is the same place and start and might consider it for 2013 In full: Firstly the marshals were great, helpful and enthusiastic on a cold Sunday morning. This summarizes the good things about this race.
The race location for the first 6km was depressing and ugly, and it is ridiculous that this race was not a circuit, ie, you finish in the same location as where you start!!
The bus situation was beyond terrible, a total disaster and mess. Upon being told the bus driver was on a 45 minute break and needed a sandwich, we were advised to walk to the train station to catch the train back to the nearest station to where our car was. What we were failed to be told is that the trains only ran once an hour!! What a surprise, left standing around in the cold, again!
We were lucky enough to jump in a cab with a few people that has called one before we got to the station - thanks to the 4 guys who kindly let us jump a ride, hope you all got home safely (from injured leg man!). The journey back to your car was the most fun of the day!
I was also disappointed to find my bag under 800 others in a wet field with no organisation or respect for my belongings.
In short: Very difficult to get to and quite dull In full: I did the Derby/Nottingham one back in 2010 and thought it was very good so was pleased to see a London one - trouble is I entered it before route confirmed so was not expecting it to be were it was. I found it dull and repetative with no support and very tricky to get to (I don't drive so my poor hubby got up to take me)The Marshalls handing out drinks were lovely and the medal was nice although much smaller than the 2010 one and with no year on it not even on the ribbon ! also back in 2010 I got a nice T-shirt included and there was a great finish (lovely food stores) - this felt like a non-event much more like a training run than a race Date of review: October 28, 2012
In short: Pathetic bus organisation ruined what would have been a good race In full: I can remember after the first run, Nottingham to Derby, people complained about the bus service afterwards, well the company has not learnt the lessons. Spoilt the whole day. I waited 1hr 10 min for a bus. Thank goodness the Red cross weent above and beyond their duty, if it wasn't for them you would have many cases of hyperthermia when people were waiting for the imaginary buses. STAY CLEAR OF THIS EVENT UNTIL THEY SORT THE BUS SITUATION OUT Date of review: October 28, 2012
In short: A complete shambles In full: Shuttle buses were infrequent, expensive, and our driver took two wrong turnings. Kit bags were left in an untidy heap in a wet field at the finish. Totally unreasonable queues for the small number of loos. Scenery good from 6K onwards, but the first part of the course through serial industrial estates was completely depressing. Finally the 11K marker was 1.1 MILES after the 10K mark. Date of review: October 28, 2012
In short: What a shambles In full: Nothing particularly wrong with the race itself except that the first 6k was along a road in an industrial estate. But it was a really half-arsed organisation. First of all we were made to buy bus tickets for £3 to get back to the start but when we got to the bus stop, we were told that the two minibuses yes two, had just gone back and that it would be at least half an hour. Then a bus came along but we were not able to get on it because the driver had done two many hours. None of the staff knew what was going on including the Marshall on the gate who couldn't even tell us where the station was. In the end we got a £12 quid taxi back Date of review: October 28, 2012
In short: Road closures, shuttle buses... Not in this race! In full: My email to the organisers...
I just want to say how disappointed I am with the organisation of this event today.
I was a late entrant, so paid 35 pounds for my entry, plus 3 pounds for the shuttlebus.
Firstly, the road was not closed off... I had to run around roundabouts with oncoming traffic and was almost hit by a car... TWICE!
When I got to the turning onto the trail just after 5 k, the Marshall (an older gentleman) had his back to me, I shouted to ask where to go and he turned and pointed and said head straight down there. I saw two young girls marshalling stood by cones, ran towards them, and again had to shout 'where am I going'. They indicated that I had missed the turning, and owing to a barrier I had to go back on myself, and the person behind me saw this error and was able to avoid it before it happened to him, losing me about 20 seconds, and morale!
The different events confused things, and made it very difficult on the small trail paths, as I had to stop on a few occasions as people were walking or running very slowly, taking up the whole path, and others did not hear my call to get out of the way as they had headphones in. Being a front runner you would not expect congestion half way into the race!
This race finished with me having to stand in a huge queue for transport that never arrived. I heard from organisers that the transport did not come, and some spectators said on the way there the driver was rude, got lost and said he might just go home. Before I booked the bus I asked how frequent they would be and I was informed 'every 15 minutes'. I waited 45 minutes and then a coach that had been parked there the whole time, but was not supposed to be for us, decided to take people. Unfortunately there was not enough room for us all, and although I believe I finished 8th in my event and went straight to the bus point, I did not make it onto the bus. With no sign of the shuttle buses I contacted my driver to meet me on the main road and decided not to wait any longer for the imaginary shuttle buses. . It is a shame, what spcould be a great event was ruined for me by a catalogue of errors... Many of people in the queue felt the same. Date of review: October 28, 2012
