In short: Well Organized Race - Well done In full: This was a well organised event with plenty of marshals en route. Easy chip pickup and free baggage. The hottest day of the year so far - 2 water stations were laid on as opposed to the one in the previous South London 10K which showed that the organisers were thinking about the runners! I managed to get a full cup of water! At the end there were loads of water and energy drinks to replemish the body and a well deserved medal too! Results were online same day! Well done Energized. In short: Not bad - not particularly scenic... Soooo hot on the day. In full: A quick run down.... - Small-scale event, very friendly, well organised - Less than 200 runners this year - Probably due to the scorching temperatures on the day - Cheap as chips to enter - AND you get a medal
What else? After 10 minutes it occurred to me that it was actually dangerously hot for running a 10k race. Thoughts of beating my PB quickly went out of the window. It must have already been almost 25 degrees in the sun when we started.
What was the problem with the water stations? Bearing in mind we're out there sweating most of our bodyweight off, there were only 2 water stations. One half way, one just before the end. They gave us a plastic cup of water - but get this... it was only one-third full of water? If it's 25 degress out there, blazing sun, then surely we need something more?
By the end, and after an attempted sprint finish, my body temperature was rocketing. Thankfully, most of the runners gathered under the huge tree just past the finishing line. That was actually a really nice touch, since it was a small-scale race.
I'm so glad we got a medal, because it was punishing out there!
So, the water stations were poor, and running through the streets of Wimbledon wasn't too scenic, but this was south London after all - so I can't complain.
An average race that would have been better if it were cooler or the organisers picked up on the fact that it was going to be scorching out there.
I think I might do this one again, as it's cheap and relatively easy to get to. Date of review: May 24, 2010
In short: hot and hilly In full: was very hot even early(ish) in the day and the hill as well made this a tougher race than expected and I doubt anyone ran quick. Decent suburban run though with good organisation and support. out or curiosity I dont know why numbers were posted and then chips picked up on the day - but it didnt matter as everything was organised well. WOuld do their races again. Date of review: May 23, 2010
In short: Excellent Organized Race. pllenty of Goodies. and great atmosphere In full: This was an excellent organised race. Lots od freebies and a great Virgin Active warmup. Loads of giveaways at the end - medal bananas, energy drinks and water on a hot day!!! great marshalling too! Will see you at Kingston 10K in 2 weeks. Date of review: May 23, 2010
In short: Very hilly, no PB potential. Lots of road crossings and turns but well marshalled In full: Marshalling and organisation was good. Between 5 and 6km there is a seriously hilly section that caught me out! Too many road crossings meant it was hard to concentrate. Plenty of marshalls did a good job on a seriously hot day! In short: Not the best organised race In full: I've not done this run before so I dont know how much had to do with the bad weather but I didnt think it was a very well organised run. They must have had many fewer runners than expected because of the weather and yet they still ran out of everything at the end. My partner finished on the hour and didnt get a goody bag whereas my friend finished with neither a medal nor a goody bag. And the marshall on the common by Parkside should note that her role was to direct and support the runners not to chat to her friends so that they all blocked the path! Date of review: March 3, 2010
In short: Well organised race In full: Starts in the park which is nice, but then spends a long time going along average residential roads. But hey, it goes near my front door so I don't mind. 1.1k of climb is a killer. Date of review: March 1, 2010
