In short: Nice atmosphere but route the worse for wear (some muddy paths & puddles) In full: Nice atmosphere, friendly staff at registration, some charity groups which was encouraging and humane, nice goodie bags at the end Missed the clock so wondering how to get chip time. The course was very muddy and full of puddles in places, a real distraction particularly at the start. Not enough loos, missed the warm up as had to Q for about 15 mins to get to one of 10 porta-loos. Some cars around the coarse were going quite fast, a bit disconcerting. In short: Definitely worth getting up for In full: Route was a good mix of on and off road, up and down hills. Well marshalled and signposted. Having the printouts of the finish times (it was chip timed) and the photos immediately after finishing was a nice touch, as was the presentation to the winners. A bit congested at the start, but it soon evened out. Plenty of water and goody bags at the end, even for us slower ones. Plenty of portaloos and bag storage. A well organised, friendly race. In full: I live in Wimbledon and am keen to support local events. It ashame the residents of Wimbledon couldn't embrace these events a little more. The impatient dog walkers, car drivers and horse riders (who showed arrogance beyond belief) spoiled a rather nice run. Clearly common land is for everyones use this includes runners. In short: had a blast and hope I will be in the area and can do it again In full: From the US, but was visiting friends in Wimbledon-so this race was a great fit! And it was a really fun race, the course was a bit of a challenge (there was a long up hill, and I never before had to negotiate horses on the path!) but it was great and I hope I'll be back in England to do it again! In short: Well Organized Race - Well done In full: This was a well organised event with plenty of marshals en route. Easy chip pickup and free baggage. The hottest day of the year so far - 2 water stations were laid on as opposed to the one in the previous South London 10K which showed that the organisers were thinking about the runners! I managed to get a full cup of water! At the end there were loads of water and energy drinks to replemish the body and a well deserved medal too! Results were online same day! Well done Energized. In short: Not bad - not particularly scenic... Soooo hot on the day. In full: A quick run down.... - Small-scale event, very friendly, well organised - Less than 200 runners this year - Probably due to the scorching temperatures on the day - Cheap as chips to enter - AND you get a medal
What else? After 10 minutes it occurred to me that it was actually dangerously hot for running a 10k race. Thoughts of beating my PB quickly went out of the window. It must have already been almost 25 degrees in the sun when we started.
What was the problem with the water stations? Bearing in mind we're out there sweating most of our bodyweight off, there were only 2 water stations. One half way, one just before the end. They gave us a plastic cup of water - but get this... it was only one-third full of water? If it's 25 degress out there, blazing sun, then surely we need something more?
By the end, and after an attempted sprint finish, my body temperature was rocketing. Thankfully, most of the runners gathered under the huge tree just past the finishing line. That was actually a really nice touch, since it was a small-scale race.
I'm so glad we got a medal, because it was punishing out there!
So, the water stations were poor, and running through the streets of Wimbledon wasn't too scenic, but this was south London after all - so I can't complain.
An average race that would have been better if it were cooler or the organisers picked up on the fact that it was going to be scorching out there.
I think I might do this one again, as it's cheap and relatively easy to get to. Date of review: May 24, 2010
In short: hot and hilly In full: was very hot even early(ish) in the day and the hill as well made this a tougher race than expected and I doubt anyone ran quick. Decent suburban run though with good organisation and support. out or curiosity I dont know why numbers were posted and then chips picked up on the day - but it didnt matter as everything was organised well. WOuld do their races again. Date of review: May 23, 2010
