In short: Well orgainsied and beautiful scenery In full: The run through the aerodrome was a bit dull, but after the that the lovely Surrey countryside kept me uplifted until the end. It is undulating, but nothing impossible. The marshalls were frequent and very helpful. Nice medal and a bar of chocolate at the end. The massage team was a nice touch Date of review: September 28, 2011
In short: Enjoyable but expensive In full: The attraction for me was to run round the TG race track and the proximity to where I live. That said, I still managed to get lost and had to come in the 'wrong' gate. I missed the turn off so can't really blame anyone but myself. The race itself was fine, interesting enough. I thought the end of the 10 mile was a little amateurish with one water container and an over zealous marshall on chocolate duties. I would do the 20 mile next time but expensive race for what you got. Date of review: September 9, 2011
In short: Good course, but expensive for what you get In full: This is the second time I've done this race, and compared to the spring race, it would appear the recession has hit Events To Live!
There were 8 portaloos, even less than last time, NO CHIP TIMING . . . at £18 entry, this seems unacceptable, no goody bag like last time, and a big queue to get your plastic cup for water at the end.
It's a real shame, because the actual course itself is great, the marshalls are great, and the medal is really nice, but all totally let down by the facilities, and for the price you pay, not worth it. Date of review: September 7, 2011
In short: Nice training run but not as good as in previous years In full: I've always enjoyed this run - the marshalls are friendly and it's a nice, varied undulating course.
But this time around, I felt that the organisation wasn't quite as good as in previous years. I was surprised to find that there was no chip timing this year especially as it's quite an expensive run. And we started late as there weren't enough toilets and people were still queueing (I gave up after 25 mins).
Despite these relatively minor grumbles, it is a good race if you're training for a marathon or a half. I just hope they bring back the chip timing for the Spring race. Date of review: September 5, 2011
In short: the hills are alive! In full: liked this race as a first timer, great marshalling, excellent water stations, attractive medal, all positive from where i was standing (or jogging up the last hill at 18 miles). Cant quite agree with the gripes aforementioned everything seemed very clear to me with a nice smallish field maybe there were issues in the ten but as i did the twenty all we had to cope with was a bit of rain but nothing the organisers can do about the weather. all good and easy to get to and away from, a good test for an autumn marathon. In short: Worth doing as part of training plan. Wouldn't have this run as a goal race. No chip timing, goody bag and disorganisation at finish line. In full: I was looking forward to this race as part of my training for a half marathon at the end of the month. Unfortunately I had a bit of a stinker. Couldn't maintain my usual pace and was feeling the heat/humidity too much (probably an excuse!)and finished 3.5 minutes over my target time. The organisation was friendly, but this disguises the fact that this is an expensive run for a jog. the start/finish was a bit of a mess, not hearing instructions and a queue for water at the end! Medal is good, but not a reason for racing. With all the space on offer at the top gear track more could be done for spectators.
In short: Was better last year In full: Nothing really bad or good this year. I think that it would be better to have bottles of water rather than plastic cups at the water stations. The worst was at the finish where both water and food arrangements were totally inadequate. Runners need bottles of water and bananas. We had to queue up to fill platic cups! Never had that in all the 50+ races I have done. Please please get this sorted. Otherwise OK. Date of review: September 4, 2011
In short: THE best 10 miler around In full: Second time for me of running this race. Like all of Nicky and Alan's at Events to Live's races, ran like clockwork. Loved running around the Top Gear track and then got really stuck into the run. Not a pb for me as been ill recently, but not far off. Yes it may be undulating at times but there are also lots of flats and downhills, so a pb is definitely a possibility. The marshals are super friendly and you get a fab atmosphere when you finish. Good touch having a choc bar at the end, and the obligatory yet good medal.
I just enjoyed this run - two of my friends got pbs, and then watched the 20 milers come in. The weather didn't ruin it either. Looking forward to the next one in March.
