In short: Very tough but great fun... In full: ...well if thats possible! This race isn't to be taken lightly. Tough hills and the long run into the finish make it physically and mentally testing. Was running this with a friend this year who was just aiming to finish - big big thanks to the marshalls who stayed out there despite our slow progress it really was uplifting!

In short: I keep coming back! In full: This was my 4th Jog Shop 20 in succession. Some races are content to be small in mumber, others aspire to have a larger field. I cannot help to think that this event deserves a bigger field than the 150-200 runners that turn up each year. If the organisers aspire to a bigger event then improvements are needed. The continuous problem of the 4th water station was worse than ever. The gap between the 3rd & 4th water station was further distance than in the previous years. Also when I got there, they had run out of water!! More marshalls, better signage, alternative smaller distance race, better marketing, signs depicting the 'north face', 'yellow brick road', big w etc will also create more of an atmosphere. On the other hand if the organisers wish to keep the event small - then don't make any changes - other than that Water sation at Rottingdean Date of review: October 13, 2008

In short: Tough course, good climbs and lovely atmosphere. In full: Third time for me and it doesn't get any easier. A very friendly event in terms of marshalls, organisers and other competitors; not o friendly in terms of the course itself plenty of stiff climbs and fast descents mixed in with good sections of very runable downland tracks. Thanks to all involved for another great morning out over the glorious South Downs. Date of review: October 12, 2008

In short: Tough and hilly but well worth the effort for the great scenery In full: For me the steep hills were not runnable but there were others walking too and it was very friendly. Thank you to all the marshalls and those who gave up their time and were so supportive. My only minor criticism was we could have done with a few more arrows - one on the slope down to the finish would have been good, when there wsn't one I wondered whether we had to go down a different way. Overall great preparation for Beachy. Date of review: October 12, 2008

In short: Very tough but great fun In full: Another wonderful late october day to run through some of the most beautiful scenery the South Downs near Brighton have to offer. Actually a bit too hot for comfort for the last few miles... The marshalling was excellent, the route is tough, but the atmosphere was wonderful. Definitely one to do. In short: Low key friendly event with a scenic and varied route In full: Perfect weather for it this year with early fog burning off for the first half giving great views of cloud filled valleys and hills looking even more epic. Marshalling is friendly and good but not as extensive as other courses and there are few water points. However, part of the appeal is its low key feel and its up to you to plan your water and food, not fall down badger sets etc. Much of the course is on farm tracks or well established footpaths so not too technical if, like me, you're a road runner who only does occasional trail runs. In short: A challenging race only for the very brave!! but fun. In full: This race was very challenging and got one of my worst times ever! However, the views were spectacular and I really enjoyed the race. I will be back next year and will be up for the challenge of getting a better time and trying to run up some of the hills!! My only criticism is the signs are few and far between and this could have been better. As one of the slower runners I was often on my own and was not sure if I was running in the right direction. I took one wrong turning and unfortunately other people followed me! Bigger sign and more signs would improve this otherwise well organised race. Date of review: October 12, 2008

In short: Tough but enjoyable - second time at this race and i'll be back next year! In full: Perfect weather conditions. An early mist and slight breeze kept the worst of the sun's heat at bay early on. Running across the top of the downs before descending into the mist of the valley floor was one of the defining moments of this years race. Not for the faint hearted - the hills are tough! but the marshals and people manning the water stations are very enthusiastic. The last two mile drag back across the cliff top path are hard but the sprint down the zig-zag at the end is fun if there's a few of you finishing together. If you fancy this race remember that it is a cross country so take your own drink and any water station is a bonus. If you enjoyed this race and fancy something similar, but with a twist, try next years Sleepwalker Midnight Marathon. Date of review: October 21, 2007
