In short: Hard start to the race finally recovered on the last part In full: Enjoyable race, marshalls and volunteers and water points great plenty of encouragement from all and even though i was one of the back markers was cheered on by other runners which helped me carry on ... Would i do it again ? yes A suggestion for the organisers how about swapping the 2nd leg for the 3rd leg Really enjoyed it and a good measuring stick for marathons Once again i thank the organisers and marshalls well done Date of review: November 28, 2011
In short: A testing challenge but fun In full: You certainly know that you have run this one! Great spririt amongst the runners and marshals with a lot of encouragement throughout the run. Not a race for me, more of a personal challenge which I hope to repeat and try to run a little bit more up Box Hill next time without slowing to a walk. The final, easier, hill felt just as hard as Box Hill after the others, but a great descent helped get dead legs moving again. Well done to all finishers, marshals for their support and the organisers for not giving up after last year's teething problems and coming back with an end of year event that will be one of the first to tick on the list for next year.
In short: Hills, glorius hills, and fantastic views In full: What a fantastic day out, helped by the weather and the views. Hilly and makes the legs ache.
The first leg is very steep but the rest is all v.runable. The second leg has a run alongside the A24 (plans afoot to remove this bit according to race director) but to be honest I was glad to have some flattish tarmac to recover a bit. The third leg has the most fantastic views.
The medal is a piece of quality and thank goodness no t-shirt (I just don't need another).
In short: The final downhill was fantastic ... In full: Pity you had to go up it first. It was quite steep. I liked the out and back bits as everyone cheered you on (if like me you were near the end!) Date of review: November 27, 2011
In short: very tough as individual event featuring 3 scenic offroad climbs In full: After my teammates minced out n cried off with minor ailments I was left to run it alone this year, having done leg 2 of the relay in 2010. Organisation and signage was very good indeed and marshalls very friendly. The worst bits of the course are the long run back along the A24 to complete the second leg (boring and tarmac) and the 3rd leg climb (steep), which this year also featured a strong headwind. Other than that it was just lovely. The somewhat out n back nature of the route increased camaraderie amongst participants, which was very good and provided a few much needed boosts. All in all a tough but fun day out. I have only one minor gripe.. having been dreaming of a badger beer for the last half hour of the run, I arrived at the finish to find copious quantities of said elixir, but sadly no bottle opener in sight!! Fortunately, Nicky the organiser was off like a flash to find one as soon as I pointed this out. Well done ETL on another excellent event. Date of review: November 27, 2011
In short: A really enjoyable race In full: I did the final leg in a team effort and really enjoyed it. The uphill start was challenging but views along the way were stunning and it was great fun charging back down the hill.
This race was well organised and the marshalls were brilliant. Denbies makes an ideal location for the race HQ with plenty of toilets and a large cafe which gave those of us running the relay a chance to relax and have a cuppa while our team mates were running their legs.
Many thanks to the Events To Live team and all the volunteers for all their efforts in making this such an enjoyable race.
In short: Blooming good race. In full: I was leg three of the relay (Ranmore) and headed two miles up the hilsl behind Denbies. The route is out and back so those coming down said hello and visa versa although some looked like a pressure about to blow. The best part of the climb is the views to the left, worth every metre of climbing. Not too gruelling but challenging.
The decent fast and furious. Like being a kid again! I'll do this again next year.
Every single Marshall were amazing, encouraging and smiling. Thank you.
In short: Tough for an individual; bit easier for a team In full: Heard there were some mix ups last year, but organisers seemed to have taken note. Loads of signage and marshals, so thought it was very well organised. Some nice touches like gels being available at end of lap, and race director on the finish line to shake finishers by the hand.
Couple of constructive suggestions though for next year. Perhaps relay runners could wear a label or additional number on their back. For those of us racing for places we didn't always know who we were racing against. And perhaps a clock at the end of each lap or finish - not that important, but had no idea of time until the results came out. Could have worn a watch I suppose!!
Other than that, strongly recommended and will do again. Well done organisers. Date of review: November 27, 2011
In short: Excellent course, good water/energy stations. I liked the format In full: The course was great, loved it but if a bit more of the 2nd loop could be made off road that would be even better but maybe the tracks don't allow for this. Good format in that you can enter as a team of 2 or 3 or do it individually. Wish I'd realised my drinks tube had frozen solid before i'd passed the water station and not just after... Hills were a killer but not unexpected. There was a little confusion here and there but not helped by signs being removed so all is forgiven on that front. Thanks to marshals. Looking forward to next year's event please! Date of review: December 1, 2010
