In short: Wonderful race with even better organisers and marshals In full: I had an absolutely shocking race but despite this came away feeling part if a real running community. At one point a spectator actually ran at the side of me to keep me going when I was close to the end, the marshals and water guys boosted us at every station and I can honestly say I can't wait for next years race to conquer the hill at 25 miles :) Date of review: October 8, 2013
In short: The best organised marathon that I've ever run. In full: The friendliness and intimacy of a small event, but the organisation and attention to detail of a major big-city marathon. Date of review: October 8, 2013
In short: Thoroughly enjoyable In full: My first marathon so can't compare to this, but if any of them are half as good they'll be some race. The encouragement from the crowd and organisation are second to none. Only thing I'd say is there a a couple of hills towards the end which are killers Date of review: October 8, 2013
In short: Brilliant! In full: So on my third attempt, I have finally managed to run a marathon without grinding to a halt at 20 miles. A massive PB and Chester 2013 will always have a special place in my heart.
When the biggest criticism I can think of it that the 24 mile marker was a bit early, you know this is a well organised race. From the arrival at the race village to one of the two organisers shaking your hand as you crossed the finish line everything ran like clockwork.
The only (albeit slight) markdown I have given is on beginner friendliness. This is only because, for somebody new to the distance, having a course where the only real ups and downs are in the last 2 miles seems a tad cruel. Not a major issue though and to be honest the amazing crowd support at that stage of the race more than made up for it.
In short: Ignore the "largly flat" description as my Garmin reckoned over 1000ft of ascent In full: There are flatter marathons, like Manchester, but it wasn't that hilly to be fair. Date of review: October 8, 2013
