In short: A great first marathon
In full: This was a great first marathon for me and I put in a respectable time. It is undulating, but the scenery and the fantastic support and marshalls made up for the hilly bits. I will be back and would encourage others to give this one a go.

In short: So undulating but so scenic
In full: Had to pull out last year so very chuffed to finish this year but would like to get under 5 if I ever do this again. Fantastic organisation and marshalling made this race special - Well done!

In short: Surprisingly hilly, great support along the way, organisation first class.
In full: As only my second marathon after running in the Three Forts 2 weeks ago I rather underestimated how tough this would be. Set a Half Marathon PB for the first half and started suffering almost immediately afterwards. The last 6 miles felt incredibly long and when the marshall flagged me to turn left across the fields at 25.5 miles I thought he was taking the p**s!
Great event though and hit my target time - next time I'll give it a bit more respect!

In short: Excellent marathon through the attractive Essex countryside in perfect running weather. Highly recommended!
In full: First class event in all areas! Good changing/shower facilities, free tea/coffee and reasonably priced sandwiches afterwards, friendly low-key feel amongst runners, plenty of well-located marshals and residents offering loud vocal support (some lady shouted out "nearly there" to me at 8 miles!! which made me split my sides!), plenty of water/sports drink stations which gave you the choice and help me get a decent time, roads mainly quite and the countryside was lovely and help to distract when pain and tiredness became an issue after 18miles, perfect weather this year, good quality medal and a generous goodie bag.

Thanks to Halstead Road Runners, all he helpers, and the supporters that made this a great day out, and I'll be back next year without doubt!!!
