In short: Remarkable that this suburban event has survived. Well organised but testing of mind and body. In full: It will never be the easiest of courses for all involved ; busy suburban streets and hills would make any race a challenge to run or organise . But all credit to Woodford Green AC for being able to maintain the event when others in similar environments have not survived and its almost impossible to get through the red tape to start new road races.
The marshalling and course marking has improved over previous years. Those at the back of the pack got support all round the course. Well done to all those involved. Date of review: March 11, 2013
In short: well organised and challenging, my favourite event In full: I've run this event for the last 7 years and the organisers have improved it every year. The start and finish run really smoothly and the marshalling was excellent especially on the tricky road crossings Date of review: March 7, 2013
In short: I really enjoyed it, marshals were great!! In full: This was my first half marathon, so I was nervous and my aim was just to finish.
I was assisted by completing my goal of finishing the marathon by lots of REALLY REALLY NICE marshals. All the way, they kept encouraging me. Even the fast runners were encouraging me while they ran, by words and thumbs up signs. I was really surprised I had never had so much encouragement in anything in all my life, it was great and that was what made me finish the marathon and feel that I could do it again.
In short: Testing but enjoyable half-marathon In full: I would echo all the other comments, that this is a very well organised half marathon. I was expecting a testing course and I wasn’t disappointed! But for every incline there was decline. I even managed a PB. Well done & thank you to everyone involved in organising this event. In short: Nice race, slick organisation, well done WG&EL In full: A bit undulating with a few uneven pavement sections, but overall I really enjoyed my first run here since 2003 and it still doesn't disappoint.
Lots of marshalls covering the road crossings, but inevitably having so many side roads and driveways there are still motorists to contend with as the roads aren't closed. I had to swerve several times to avoid collisions, but no damage done.
Great use of the running track (always nice to finish on a track), although this meant that finish line was about 500m away from the 13 mile marker which was a surprise having finished on the driveway on my previous visit.
Only suggestion I'd make is to try and find a date that doesn't clash with so many other big half marathons in the south of England, as this will have affected entry numbers, and the race deserves a bigger field. Date of review: March 4, 2013
In short: Fabulous, well-organised urban race In full: Another triumph for Roding - there seemed to be more marshalls on duty this year, especially on the road crossings. So well done to all. Date of review: March 4, 2013
