In short: Good half marathon on flat scenic course In full: Well organised and marshaled. The only real issue is the tight first few sections getting out of town (not any worse than bunching at some of the larger races I've run) but after that it's nice and open and quite scenic as you head toward Cookham - much prettier than Reading.
I liked the fact that there were KM and mile markers as I find it easier to pace in KMs rather than miles. Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: really enjoyed it In full: First time i have ever done this race, very well organised, great mix of runners, flat and fast course apart from the twists and turns on the underpass.other race organisers should take note of the baggage system !! top class in and out in seconds. will be back again next year. In short: Very well organised friendly race. In full: Organisation was spot on. Mile markers were easily visible.Lots of encouraging marshalls and groups of locals who kindly turned out to offer support. Personally I prefer a one lap course but it was good to see that the problem with the underpass has been sorted out this year. I'll be back again next year. In short: Superb event from Purple Patch In full: Great race all around, pancake flat, great crowds this year, super-slick registration and race village etc. There have been some teething problems in the previous years, but this is a seriously good event now, fault free in my book. If only I was a little fitter!!!
Sign me up for next time :-) Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: brilliant In full: very well organised , easy to see where to start lots of loos (important to me lol )the marshals were fantastic & also the residents were out to support you with jelly beans !!!I don't understand the negative comments im not sure what people expect sometimes !! I got a pb & a medal well happy Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: Ah well, we're all different. In full: Third time of doing the MHM for me. Always found it first class, and this year was no exception. Distance markers came thick and fast, being in miles and kilometres, and staggered for the two laps. I quite liked this, and found them easy to spot, although as I live a few metres off the course, knew where to expect to see them. Problems with the first underpass which were encountered last year were full addressed. The organisation was faultless, Marshals plentiful, some were more enthusiastic than others, but all were efficient, and helpful. There seemed to be more support from residents than in previous years. Even the weather was just right, and the rain held off 'till on the way home. Only downside, was when my knee gave way at 5 miles, which slowed me down for the remainder of the race. Nothing whatsoever to do with the race of course, and I still managed to finish a little faster than the two previous years. I'll be back!! Thanks to PP, and all marshals and crew. In short: Meh In full: Highlights: Car parking and bag drop. Cookham. Lows: High percentage of boring town centre and housing estate course, bl***y underpass, nice bit along river cut out of 2nd lap, final kilometre a bit of an obstacle course, bl***y underpass. 'Goody bag' consisted of cup of water and a banana. How long does it take to get results out!? Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: Fast and flat and very well organized In full: I second the comments below about smooth organization, especially of the baggage stow. A good event although a bit larger than other PP races. The course is flat and with long straight stretches, and distance markers in km and miles. I'd prefer some variety of terrain and incline, though, and the early start means it's the first train of the day from Reading, which can be unreliable. But these are gripes specific to me. Well done PP, another good race added to the local calendar. Date of review: September 8, 2013
