In short: Excellent from start to finish In full: Fantastic organisation & great atmosphere. Brilliant support from the brummies. Hills towards the end were tough but still managed to knock12 mins off my GNR time. Highlight was being passed by Gebrselassie....going in opposite directions....he was at 7 miles, I was at 4! In short: what a difference from last year! In full: the difference from last years race to this years was incredible! The great run people certainly know how to organise a race! Same course as last year, so i knew when the hill was coming at 10 miles, but it didn't seem as bad! Thank you Great Run People for saving our local half marathon. Hope you'll be back next year! (i will if you will!) Date of review: October 25, 2011

In short: Wow! My second ever half-marathon and clocked a PB (beat my last time by 9 mins) got 1:45!! I loved every second, from trailing such elite athletes, to clocking Gebresalasie as I ran down Pershore Road - Amazing XX In full: What stood out: the woman at 8 miles holding out cookies for all us runners to take, all the supporters banging saucepans and singing, residents standing out the front of their houses holding water bottles, waving at Sam and Mark in Cannon Hill Park (!!), people shouting my name as I sprinted (far too early down Broad Street!!) and little kids holding boxes of sweets - how amazing?? I loved every second of this race, only wish is that I could of started with the Orange wave, I put 1:45 finish on application but started at back of white wave and had to do a lot of weaving in and out to overtake. Still, fantastic to get a PB! Date of review: October 25, 2011

In short: Lessons learnt In full: So much better than 2010's offering. From start to finish, the race was a triumph. The waved start was a much better idea, and the feeder lanes down to the pens made sure that there was no congestion a la 2010. Course itself hasn't changed since last year, but support - as with every year this run has been been held - was fantastic, with massed crowds cheering all runners on. Finish was smooth, and a decent goodie bag was presented to all finishers. Great stuff! Date of review: October 25, 2011

In short: Great atmosphere, support was brilliant In full: This was my first marathon and was very impressed. The organisation was brilliant with the waves so you were with people that ran at your pace. The crowd's all round the course were brilliant and kept me going. There is a killer hill at 11 miles but if you pace yourself you can get through it. I will definitely be going it again next year. Date of review: October 25, 2011

In short: Fantastic, love love loved it In full: Where do I begin from the support of the crowd, to my family and friends especially at 11 miles they had a massive banner with my name getting me up that crazy hill but still managed a PB. Tough course towards the end but BUPA you did an amazing job from the bottom of my heart I had so much fun. I was a bit hesitant of entering after last year but when I saw you guys had taken over I knew I had to enter and also running in the footprints of Haile wow just breathtaking. This was an amazing race and I would def do it again!! Thank you!! Date of review: October 25, 2011

In short: Much much better than 2010 In full: I ran this in 2010, the organisation was chaotic, but the Great Run guys know their stuff, they seemed to have listened to people's gripes from last year and organised a superb race this time. None of the problems of last time at the start or finish.
Hills from 10-12 miles are tough and will slow down anyone looking for a PB, that said, i managed a very quick first 8 miles, so despite slowing down, i still beat my PB by just under a minute to come home in 01:48:38, all in all very pleased and a very special day, thanks to the Great Run team. In short: Fantastic Race In full: Faultless organization from the Great Run team and Birmingham City Council. Fantastic atmosphere and support from the Birmingham crowd. As one would expect from a big city half marathon the route is not very scenic especially in places but the route is very well supported and the hills offer a nice challenge. To run in the same race as Haile Gebrselassie is a real treat.
Superb day.
