In short: Extremely well organised just a shame about hill at the end In full: Chester half marathon is as well organised as the full marathon - absolutely excellent. The scenery is lovely and there was good support along the way. Very good positioning of water stations. I didnt get a PB but I think that was mainly due to the really hot weather and wind and the hills at the end killed me off! Still it was a really lovely atmosphere and I woudl recommend to other people. Date of review: May 19, 2014
In short: Flat, fast course, and some great support In full: A brilliantly organised event, with fantastic support. The race start at the Racecourse is great as every one can chill-out of the grass beforehand (perfect in the beautiful sunshine this year).
Course is nice and flat for the most part, although finishes with a bit of a killer hill, and very much PB friendly - I knocked 4 mins off Conwy Half, despite the extreme heat.
Overall a brilliant race, good goody bag at the end too, with tech t-shirt. Also recommend a trip down to the riverfront afterwards for your post-race beer! Date of review: May 19, 2014
In full: This was my sixth Chester Half Marathon this year, and it just gets better and better. The organisation is absolutely superb, i could not fault it. The crowds were absolutely fantastic, and the live music was brilliant. At every point of the race there were people supporting the runners, fantastic. I preferred the slight change to the course this year, although that hill at the end finished me off well and truly. It was so hot!!I got a spotprize for wearing my 2010 Chester Half t shirt which i thought was a nice touch. Great Medal and t-shirt, a few goodies too! A brilliant race that i will do again and again! Congrats to all those who involved, another success. Date of review: May 19, 2014
In short: Amazing race In full: I really can't praise the race organisers highly enough. I have run many races all over Europe and this one is going to take some beating. I don't even have any suggestions for minor improvements, it was pretty near perfect.
Lovely start area on the racecourse. Mile markers were large and the drinks stations were frequent. The water bottles were exactly the right size and there were several large bins after all the water stops. Great support with really friendly locals along the route.
Thank you very much to all the volunteers along the course and at the finish, you were absolutely fantastic. Well done to Andy and Chris and everyone else involved, you can be really proud of putting on such a brilliant event. Date of review: May 18, 2014
In short: Brilliant organisation In full: My second favourite half marathon behind anglesey. I like the race course start and town centre finish. The crowds at the end were amazing. I preferred last years course, due to there being a lot of support in blacon. I enjoyed the sunshine, the water stations were the best I've come across. Nice t shirt that I can actually run in and a big medal. The training runs are a great idea too. Chester marathon is just as good , see you in October !
In short: Well organised event, good one for HM newbies In full: Impressed with the organisation and excellent work putting out so many water stations. Thought course was so-so, the narrow track after the bridge was no fun as too crowded. Well supported race, especially at the finish. One other gripe aimed at other runners - if you must wear your ipod, at least look out before veering around in front of people. Bit of a lack of race manners today :( Date of review: May 18, 2014
In short: Excellent organisation In full: I was really impressed with the organisation, from the park & ride buses at the beginning of the day to the many toilets, the clear & well organised start, loads of drinks stations, cheering spectators and online tracking & cams. The goody bag was ok - lots of haribo type stuff that I personally don't like but the kids hoovered it up! I think that the course could have been more scenic given some of the stunning areas around Chester, but I guess compromises have to be made for traffic & residents. Shame it was so darned hot! In short: Bloody hot but a great finish and very well organised In full: A really good race, very nice atmosphere and a proper 'big race' feel (in a positive way). Water stations were very efficient which was vital on such a hot day. Only gripe is that the t shirt size L seems a bit small, but that's a minor complaint that does nothing to detract from a very enjoyable occasion. Date of review: May 18, 2014
In short: This how ALL half marathons should be In full: My first Chester Half was 2010. I have always followed the comments of fellow runners and have always been impressed with the ability of the organisers to try and accommodate the suggested improvements. This year they appear to have excelled themselves. Organisation impeccable. Route (even improved from last year to accede to the few complaints from some residents). Marshals and volunteers should be allowed to go around every race in the country to show them how it is done. You won't see more smiles from a group of laughing hyenas. Water station positions just right. Spectators, with a bit of encouragement, were brilliant. Can't fault the whole thing. Even the toilets, and there were HUNDREDS, were immaculate.
