In short: Despite the awful weather it was a really good day. In full: In spite of the weather I really wanted to support this race because it has everything that a race should have, really friendly, great organisation and communication, exceptional medal & tech shirt...all served with humour! In short: First 10K and loved it. See you again next year In full: I finished mid 700s and did not see any water at the finish line. There were plenty of bananas and apples, but I did not see any water. Maybe they ran out earlier on. Goodie bag was not bad but not brilliant. The fruit juice and energy drink kind of made up for the lack of water at the end. I think it was a little cheeky including the "Fuel Up at BELLA and get 25% off your total food bill....before the Mad Dog 4 10K fun run" discount card in the after the race goodie bag. Sample packs/cards are just that, small samples given away from manufactures, but that said, they can be nice. The T-Shirt and medal are brilliant, absolutely love them. There are lots of toilets and although there was a small queue, it was very acceptable. I did feel sorry for the spectators. When walking from the school to the start line, I expected to see stalls and some sort of entertainment. From a runners point of view, there was plenty of entertainment around the course. There were also plenty of marshals around which left a good feeling. It was nice to see Raynet and St John Ambulance present and working together.
I'm not trying to knock the organisers, but give constructive feedback. I have been involved with organising medium to large events and know how much time it takes (and how it completely takes over your life about 3 weeks before the event).
Well done to everyone involved in the organising and running of the event.
See you next year Date of review: February 10, 2014
In short: yep I was impressed In full: Initially I was a bit reluctant as this is a bit more than I would usually want to pay for a 10k but I can see that none of that entry fee is wasted and it is all put to gooduse. From the start the buses bringing us both to and from the car park were like clockwork. Good venue at school meant plenty of room for everyone to shelter whilst waiting for the start. Plenty of toilets im guessing those that struggled with the numbers hadnt looked for alternatives as I always go last minute and had no probs 3 people ahead of me in the queue! Nice simple route along the sea front with brilliant bands and good support considering the weather lovely t shirt and medal chip timing with text message following the finish all in all a brilliant race and I would say worth the money. Plus I got a pb thanks for the wind blowing me back :) Date of review: February 10, 2014

In short: Great race, brilliant atmosphere In full: Very well organised race. Lots of toilets, smoothly run baggage drop, plenty of changing rooms. Loved the bands along the route. Bottled water was much appreciated as usually with cups none goes in my mouth and I just end up chucking it over my face! Excellent medal and T-shirt. Goody bag is good and amongst the best I've had from races, only a couple of races have bettered it. I didn't see any water at the finish but it seems there was some. Perhaps needs to be more obvious. Not a massive issue as there were drinks in the goody bag but would have preferred to save them to enjoy rather than chucking them down my throat in my desperate need for hydration! Brilliant marshals who cheered us on especially the ones stood in that awful wind. Overall, I thought this was an excellent race. Date of review: February 10, 2014
In short: Fantastic friendly race In full: First time doing this race and it was great! Really well organised, fab tshirt and goody bag and cheerful on course entertainment. Marshalls were very encouraging too. Got a decent time despite the stiff onshore breeze for the first 5k. PB next year? Date of review: February 10, 2014
In short: nice easy route, enjoyed music on way round, water at the end i did not see, but had to drinks in the doggy bag, something going on at the end would have been good for the kids to do when waiting and, music maybe, In full: Food / toilets to close together very busy in that area, over all did enjoy the day, Date of review: February 10, 2014
In short: Simply the best race on the calendar In full: Following the slightest of hiccups last year with the parking (which was beyond the control of the organisers anyway!), this year everything ran like clockwork. The wind was a bit fresh and probably reduced most PB attempts to rubble, but sometimes that's what you get in February! With pretty much a full school hall and sports centre to shelter in and hot showers, changing rooms and almost enough toilets for one each, the facilities are second to none.
Good idea this year to get the quick runners towards to front of the pack but unfortunately, still lots of runners far too near the front for their ability - if you need to walk in the first mile of a 10k, you probably need to be a bit further back. Again, not an organiser problem but if I know the Mad Dog team, there's likely to be mention of this in next year's race pack!
On to the race itself - one of the flattest courses you're likely to encounter, wide enough for 5 or 6 abreast on most of the course. Entertainment provided by local bands/people is enthusiastic and very good. It's so much easier to run with a big smile on your face!
Fabulous 'themed' Tshirts available for pickup before the race with the option to exchange sizes afterwards (subject to availability) and certainly one of the best 'Goody' Bags on the circuit (including superb bespoke medal).
All in all, I'll be running this one every year. Every race organiser could learn a lot from the Southport Round Table! Date of review: February 10, 2014
