In short: Great race for a first time half marathoner! In full: Was a great race for my first half marathon, got there nice and early so managed to park near by although was confused as there were no signs to the college green from the hippodrome, ended up going towards the harbourside instead!!. Course was v flat but tough from 9 miles onwards due to twisting and the cobbles. Plenty of drink stations although at 11 miles I really wanted water and not a lucozade, could they have offered both? Goodie bag ok but I've had better, medal was great quality and bag storage excellent. Crowds were great, even though I had no supporters I still felt very much encouraged!!. Would def do this again and improve my time!! Date of review: September 15, 2008

In short: Nice route, excellent support, not too crowded - a well run race in every department! In full: T-shirt was a bit rubbish, surprisingly small - i ordered a large but it was a cosy fit to say the least and i'm not that big really! Goodie bag had a double decker bar & a lucozade - a bit stingy in the grand scheme of things but plenty of fluid stations on the way round though. Support was v good, much better than i was expecting it to be & contributed to this being far better than its bath equivalent. My garmin measured it at 13.4 which seems to be a recurrent problem from other reviews. Good funnelling at the finish, & plenty of places to eat & drink near the finish area if you're in no hurry to get away. All round worth the 2 hour trip from the south coast. In short: Well managed event with PB potential In full: Overall I think that this was a well managed event. 2 Wave start was good and avoided too much bunching at the start. My only groans are the lack of mile markers at every mile (or did I just miss a load?), the cobbles which are not much fun after 10+ miles and the "goody bag" that contained no goodies! In short: Good event. In full: Best organised Bristol half over the last 6 years I have run this. Well marshalled and plenty of water and energy drinks. One niggle - getting back to College Green as mentioned by others. One query - announcer at start mentioned 16,000 entrants - less than 10,000 finishers on web site. Good large, city half marathon and one I will return to. Thank you to all marshalls and volunteers. Date of review: September 15, 2008

In short: Fantastic, enjoyed (nearly) every moment In full: First time doing the Bristol Half, enjoyed every moment. Thanks to the heffer that stood on my foot before crossing the start line and tore off my chip (£10 to pay) this meant that my time was not recorded at all which I only realised after the event. Then at the last water station when another non apologetic gent kicked my ankle and gave me a limp for the last mile or so. My Garmin also recorded 13.34 miles in 2:01:26 so not bad. Weather played nicely, Bristol did us proud and the crowd were excellent - Thank you. Date of review: September 15, 2008

In short: Gutted to have not got a pb! In full: interested to see comments regarding the distance. I know ran at a good pace and to only just miss out on a pb was slightly demoralising. all in all, great race...please get the packs out earlier next year! Date of review: September 15, 2008

In short: Now very well organised - great race! In full: My wife had done the race in 2005 and vowed never to do it again because of the overcrowding and poor organisation. Three years on and we both did it and found it a huge improvement on the previous event. Wave-start I thought worked very well - for me it made it much less crowded than the Bath Half (which has a similar number of people), more like the Cardiff Half (~5000) in terms of your road-space! A PB for me (by 8 seconds!), although my Garmin also measured the course as 13.34 miles (yes I started and stopped it on the s/f line) - and I didn't have any course diversions for toilet stops. Another reviewer reported exactly the same distance, so my PB might have been a couple of minutes faster. The sun coming out caught me a bit by surprise coming down the Portway, but the water and energy drink stations were superbly manned and kept me hydrated enough over the course. A bit twiddly with a couple of hills in the last three miles, but not too overcrowded as someone had warned me from last year's race - primarily I think because of the wave-start. Funnelling at the end to collect water/foil/medal/goody-bag was excellent (Bath Half organisers please take note). Great crowd support throughout - I'll be back next year!
