In short: Extremely tough, but extremely enjoyable at the same time. In full: This was the first time I had run this race. My sister and I decided to try it after hearing some great reviews. We weren't disappointed! Although there was the most evil hill I'd ever encountered on any race I have done, this was a great run and I'd definately do it again. The scenery was out of this world, there were some very steep uphill climbs but some long downhill bits too. A lovely atmosphere, fantastic marshals and plenty of water and Jelly beans. And we'll, the cakes at the end, what can I say? They were amazing and the slices were huge! The medal was great, there were plenty of toilets and parking and it was very well organised. This is not one for a PB, but for a good challenging run and a lovely day out, I'd fully recommend it. Date of review: January 11, 2015
In short: Great value for money with the runners coming 1st for a change...I was even told at the end as I was taking my mud caked trainers off to go and grab the fantastic cake to leave them on..and that was by the lovely cleaner In full: Fantastic course and a credit to all those who organised the event and great to see so much support from the village.A big thank you from me x Date of review: January 11, 2015
In short: Ensures that you don't skimp on hill training sessions before. Challenging route but rewarding when you have mastered the final climb and are coasting back to the finish line (and cake stall). Date of review: January 11, 2015
In short: Superb In full: Great races full of hills and mud. Hill at mile 6 is one hell of a hill. Very challenging course. Love the mud, mud gets better the more you run in it. Brilliantly organised, marshals were great. Nice bling plus draw for £100 voucher. Defo one for next year. Date of review: January 11, 2015
In short: Hard as hell, but excellent as always In full: I could offer a few choice words about the hill at halfway, but otherwise can't think of anything negative to say about this race. Steve Goulding should be very proud for organising such an excellent, friendly event. No wonder it always sells out. The race is a challenge, to say the least, and excellent training for a marathon as well as burning a few calories from Christmas! Everyone is very friendly, not least the encouraging marshals, and the home-made cakes were fab! Nice to have a coffee before and after the race! Excellent organisation and even better this year with parking right at the race HQ. Thanks to the villagers for their co-operation in making this a special day. Looking forward to next year already!
In short: Time of year guarantees a challenging, yet enjoyable, race. All abilities made to feel welcome and well organised. The whole village seems to have helped out! Novices do not need to fear taking part. Date of review: January 19, 2014
In short: Tough but brilliant. In full: First time Rough 'n' tumble and what a challenge! Thoroughly enjoyed it, the hills were insane. Mud, cold water and more mud so all in all a great course. Cake was amazing, the organisation was excellent and marshals were great! Will be back.... Date of review: January 19, 2014
In short: As many exciting twists and turns as the plot of 'Sherlock' In full: Drizzle, a cool wind and mist added to the atmosphere of this splendid romp through Wiltshire countryside. The terrain - mud! Chalky mud! Running water! frozen water! - kept things interesting, as did the runnable descents and stonking ascents. Plus cake to finish and the most efficient bag drop ever.
