In short: A charity event only. Not for pb's In full: Would have welcomed a warning about roadworks going into South Shields and level of congestion. Result was that despite setting off really early the shuttle bus got me to the start 15 minutes after the start time and I had to overtake 10,000 other runners. It mat have been better if I had lined up according to my time but not one for a pb! Date of review: October 5, 2006

In short: Great new start, spolied by 2 hour return to Newcastle In full: The new pens for running times meant a vast improvement on previous years, not so many slow runners and you ran with people of a similar pace. The walkers were mostly at he back apart from the liars. Pity about the buses back into town terribly slow this yaer. Date of review: October 5, 2006

In short: There may be things the organisers could do better, but there is no sight quite like 50,000 runners on the central motorway in Newcastle Date of review: October 5, 2006

In short: A special race for santa In full: Theres so much been said about the GNR.I love doing the GNR,so this was my 6th consecutive run.I saved my 21st half marathon to run in a santa outfit-Why? Its the only half marathon,in my opinion which you can enjoy doing in fancy dress and get tremendous support from the locals from start to finish. It just has that special feel about it. In short: Great Atmosphere - Hard to find easy transportation back into Newcastle In full: Great Race - considering the amount of people it was well organised and a great atmosphere. Stayed in Newcastle on the Sat. & Sun night which I would recommend as we didn't get back to the hotel until later that afternoon because the public transport was so crowded. Newcastle is a great place - good bars, restaurants and the people were really friendly. Will try and do this again just for the whole experience. Date of review: October 5, 2006

In short: Awful trains/metro overcrowding to get there In full: Expensive station parking and overcrowded train from Durham. Then the Newcastle Metro was even worse - most poeople walked to the start. Once there though it was worth it, fantastic atmosphere, and the congested start was a blessing as it slowed me down and then I was able to hold it together for a new half PB of just under 1hr 40min! And the finish with the crowds and the sea is magic! Well done, it was Great North Fun! Date of review: October 5, 2006
