In short: Hills,Thrills and Lots of Aches In full: Good testing half with a couple of sharp climbs and one nasty hill. That said it's a loop so you get all the climbing back.Really cheerful marshalls and good traffic control, nice to have lots of loos laid on prior to the start so no major queues formed-at least I wasn't aware of any-a myriad of water stations and an isotonic drinks table to on the way round.A good challenging run with lots of friendly support Date of review: March 16, 2008
In short: Great race, In full: Really nice course with a few climbs but enough flat bits to balance it out. The sports drinks and sponges were great and showed that a bit of extra thought had gone into the planning. Many thanks to all involved. Date of review: March 16, 2008
In short: Great stuff!! In full: This was the first time I'd done this race and will definitely be back. Great atmosphere, plenty of marshalls and water stations, and a PB to boot (1:30:57). See you next year! Date of review: March 16, 2008
In short: A great race, well organised, good scenery, good atmosphere In full: I thought it was fabulous- in contrast to the last comment, I don't mind water in cups and the energy drink was a nice touch. A proper runners' race Date of review: March 30, 2007
In short: Nice course, shame about water stations In full: Lovely course, pretty, quiet and only one pretty short hill. However, the water stations provide a cup of water rather than a bottle, which is difficult and I ended up with a raging thirst by the end as I simply couldn't take enough water on board. The rules specifically forbid carrying your own water, however I wish I'd flouted that rule as many others blatantly did. As for the goody bags... they ran out very early on, even our fastest club runners missed out! So overall, for £12 you get a cup or two of water and a t-shirt. Pretty steep. However, special mention to the village hall which was lovely and warm with home baked cakes & tea & coffee, the sponges at 9.5 miles were great, and the PA system was great at the finish line as they shout out your name. In short: A very enjoyable race with nice views and good organisation In full: This was my first race so its hard to give a comparison. I have never been to Ackworth but once your near by you see plenty of signs for car parks. A quick walk to the main area and you see the school for new registrations. One quick form later and £19.00 lighter you have a race number. I quickly changed in a class room and got chatting with a few other runners that had run the race in previous years. I was made to feel very welcome and didn’t experience any clickyness. The race started on time without any incident and we were off. Drink stations were plentiful and even had Lucozade a mile 5.
The entire event was well organised and well executed. The race was scenic and other runners made you feel very welcome? Could you want or expect more? I for one could not!!
I will be running this again next year, Thanks Date of review: March 26, 2007
In short: Have done the Leeds 1/2 several times but this was first other half marathon so pleased with time. Excellent organisation, nice route and well worth it. Thanks to all who helped. Date of review: March 26, 2007
