In short: a beautiful city, lovely people, but could be better organised
In full: as with most races, there are bad points. Edinburghs is the organisation, from the inaccurate mile markers, to the handling of the water and lucozade. where were the sport caps? why different flavours when we had been told just orange? better spacing of stations might not go amis.

however....

a great day was had, especially meeting so many lovely people from the forums. I managed to run the time I was aiming for, despite the heat and the hills at the end! the course, in most parts, was scenic. you cant have 26.2 miles of glorious views in any city, so a few miles of indutrial estates is acceptable.

i will be back, as i really enjoyed the whole weekend. next year though please dont have the relay, or at least stagger it so that you dont get people barging past marathon runners when they have just run 20 odd miles and are feeling knackered.

In short: improvemented from last year, but still more required
In full: Challenging route not helped by tough conditions, although the blame for that can hardly be laid at the organisers doorstep. Expo was MUCH better this year.
Start area was MUCH better this year.

Route still need improvement.
Mile markers either non-existent or WAAAY out.
Incredibly bad value. Poor quality medal, goody bag, and TBH, badly designed t-shirt.
Geoff Sim (Race Director) seems to be taking his ball home. But if he cant find a major sponsor in Edinburgh, maybe it is time for him to pass the mantle on to somebody who can organise the proverbial brewery event.

In short: Nice scenery but suffers from a lack of supporters when the route turns away from where anyone lives

In short: great marshalls (thanks!) and nice sights but more toilets, less entry fee and why did we need to go all the way to ocean terminal to register? but thanks to all the support the last 60 mins were horrible in the heat but matched my time from 2005

In short: Again!
In full: First time marathoner, didn't get the time I was hoping for as took it easy in the heat and am really proud that I ran the whole way- albeit very slowly. Thought the course was lovely, though the hills at the end and the extra bit at the end of Promenade at Portobello was a bit soul destroying at the end- thank goodness for the hose pipes. Atmosphere at the end was still great even when I staggered across the line. Thanks to the brave massage people who I'm sure had to deal with some pretty manky feet!!!

In short: too hot to run but still finished with a smile
In full: More toilets needed at beginning and throughout course. Had to queue for about 5 - 10 mins during race, not ideal. Marshalls and supporters excellent but could have done with some bands or bagpipes during race to keep me going. Hosepipes near end fab. Much slower time than I hoped but it was my first marathon and I did finish it!

In short: Hot and little more hills than i expected!
In full: Apart from the heat and those hills in the last three miles i thought it was a great course, really quick for the first 20. knocked over 30 mins off my London time last year!

Could've done with regular water stations, they seemed a little erratic to me. More toilets at the start and better mile markers would've been helpful, i'm just glad i was using my Garmin.

Overall i really enjoyed the race and would defintely do it again.

In short: Great race, despite the temperature!
In full: This was my frst full marathon and first trip to Scotland.Although the weather was warmer than I'd trained for, I had a good run and would definitley do it again. The spectators who were giving out jelly babies, lollies and those who had their garden hoses out were amazing and really helped contribute to a great day! I had such a good time that my training partner and I decided on the day to go and do Dublin in October!

In short: This was my first marathon and despite the hills, the heat I truly loved it. The Edinburgh folk were wonderful, the atmosphere heart warming and best of all I completed it and rounded it off in a pub with The RW Edinburgh Forum green ribbon gang.
