In short: Good race with a few hiccoughs In full: As ever on-course marshalling was superb. Not the best course spectator-wise. Even tho' it wasn't as hot as last year the extra water station was much appreciated. Getting out of the car park was a lot smoother than last year - 10-15 mins compared with last year's hour plus.
Shame about the mix-up at the start. If you're going to tell runners to congregate at the start it's a good idea to have someone down there to tell them where they need to be. Date of review: June 11, 2007
In short: An enjoyable and memorable day! In full: This was my first ever road race - ticked along nicely, keeping one eye on the finishing line and that yomp up Royal Artillery Way. Water stations excellent, thanks for the sponges! Friendly marshalls encouraging us along. Really hope the chips work but given earlier comments about a mat I'm not sure if this will be the case. Only live down the road so will add this one to my annual events! Date of review: June 11, 2007
In short: Flat course which was very well marshalled In full: After struggling through Eastbourne and Watford earlier on this year the flat course was a welcome change and I broke my pb by seven minutes. Start was a little disorganised but importantly there was no bunching. Came by train myself and walked to the start so no car park troubles. Date of review: June 11, 2007
In short: Great race, pity about the car park. In full: Arrived about 5 minutes before the start because we were stuck in the traffic trying to get into the car park and they closed the road down to one lane, which was not the brightest idea. The course itself was fantastic, pretty flat apart from that massive hill half a mile from the end, ouch. Most of the route was scenic and the atmosphere was great. Managed to clock 1:37 which knocked 5 minutes off my previous best, so PB'S can definitely be achieved here. Then got stuck for 40 minutes trying to get out of the car park.
Overall a great race, just a real shame about the car park access. Date of review: June 11, 2007
In short: Really enjoyed this race - very friendly and well organised In full: Really enjoyed this race - until the last, uphill, mile which was a killer. Overall well organised (including getting out of the car park at the end - well done and thanks to the cadets). Water stations and sponges etc were very well done and there was plenty of them. In summary: nice, flat course; friendly atmosphere; well marshalled and nice support from spectators round the course. And to the earlier comment from someone who caught the sun - you weren't the only one taken by surprise! Date of review: June 11, 2007
In short: Enjoyable day if you dont use the alloted car parks In full: About the sixth or seventh time I have done this now and enjoy the actual race. Marshalling on the course and water stations very good and friendly. Not sure about the stadium though. Was there a T-shirt ? and what's with area's roped off for corporate groups only. Made people unsure what areas were for normal public use. That and the terrible car parking queues, if you got there early and parked at the stadium, mean I might not do this anymore. In short: Timing chip with no start mat? No atmosphere at all - felt very lonely running, fortunately my family found me at 7, 11 and finish! In full: I have run a couple of 10k races this year, with fewer spectators, but they both felt like they had a much, much greater atmosphere despite having fewer competitors and fewer spectators. Being a total novice and in my first (possibly last) half I really needed some crowd encouragement which I just didn't get, I was lucky enough to see my wife and kids at the start, 7 miles, 11 miles and at the finish, without their encouragement I think I would have been tempted to walk. I ended up doing a 1:58 which smashed my 3hr target and as it was my first was a PB.
Water stations were plentiful, but could have done with being in bottles - sponges were nice!
Course was really well marshalled and needed to be.
Getting out of the car park was a mission, but with that number of people that was to be expected.
Where can I buy some new knees? Date of review: June 11, 2007
