In short: What a lovely run (bar the hills that is.......) In full: This was such a lovey event the scenery was stunning (probably helped by the great weather). The organisation was brill and everything worked well. However the hills were just brutal...The first hill is quite bad for starters but then knowing you have to do it again at 7km is quite hard. For that reason Im not sure I would do it again next (I always say that though). Date of review: February 4, 2007
In short: great race in a great setting In full: Found the hills tough going but not impossible by any means. Wonderful venue and the final sweep down to the finish really was something quite special. In terms of location it was second only to Westonbirt arboretum. Excellent organisation and a really nice atmosphere. Overall I would have to highly recommend this. Date of review: February 4, 2007
In short: challenging run; beautiful scenery In full: Glorious weather today to showcase the glorious settings. Even a deer joined us for part of the race, darting left right and centre probably scared of the crowds! Managed to do a PB by 1 minute despite the 3 hills (and yes, the last hill was tough, coming after 7K and on legs burning from the effort!) Date of review: February 4, 2007
In short: HILLY!!! In full: Obviously a race set in the grounds of longleat is going to tick all the scenery boxes but there is more to consider. This, in my opinion, is a seriously hilly run; don't go to Longleat if you're looking for a personal best. The course is a figure 8 around the estate which incorporates 3 long climbs and 3 long gradual down hills with the odd spot of flat in between; the final Kilometer back down the main drive to the house is awesome and inspires you when you're at your lowest. Competitors consist largely of people running the Bath 1/2 in march and using this as an early test; as such there are all sorts there but in all this is one of the slower packs i've run in. The organisation was ok, although there could have been a few more portaloo's (isn't this the same at every event though), access is easy and parking is free and close to start. The Bling is pretty cheap but you can get it engraved for £3 and I would have been a happier customer of 209 events if I had had a goody bag; i'm shallow like that but thanks to SIS for the much needed drink at the finish. All said i will be going back next year for another lung bursting slog up those hills because it's a damn testy 10k. Date of review: February 4, 2007
In short: lovely day great weather conditions if a little cold In full: I thought the race had three tough hills and was set in lovely estate of Longleat. Parking on the side of the exit road did cause exit problems and I left before 1200. Lack of toliets the usual at these large events. I will be back to hopefully to beat my time in 2008. In short: Hilly, yes, beautiful, yes, great finish, yes, do it again? Yes. In full: Third time of running this now and today's weather made it glorious. Beautiful scenery in the frost, well supported at the finish (which you pass 3 times) and although it is hilly there are nice downhill stretches to make up the time if not the energy. Do it next year if you haven't done it yet. Date of review: February 4, 2007
In short: For the entry fee they could afford more toilets! In full: When I and my friend arrived we oculd hear te liions roaring and then later the wolves were at it as well. Very atmospheric! I haven't run a "race" for ages and I'd forgotten how enjoyable it is to join a thousand others to go for a gentle jog around the English country side. The hill are proper hills and your thoughts going up the first seem to concentrate on knowing you have to do it again. And by that time you won't be as fresh! So perhaps a couple of minutes walking too. But it isn't a crime to catch your breath.
I was pleased with my time but this was not an easy run at all.
Expensive at £17 and they really should provide more toilets for the entry fee. However, if it hadn't been for the queue we woudln't have got talking to some nice runners. What a friendly bunch we can be!!!! Date of review: February 4, 2007
