In short: Great race In full: One of my local races so I'm biased and it always helps if the sun shines! Bag drop worked really well this year, great tea and cakes. Agree with another review about runners dropping gel sachets, I was behind a chap who just threw his into the bushes, why not carry it a bit further to drink station? In short: Good all round event. In full: Good distance race at the right time of the year with good organisation, great marshals, good rewards (medal and goodie bag) and suitably tired legs and a warm glow of satisfaction. Date of review: February 18, 2013
In short: A very well organised race, with a very friendly atmosphere In full: My first entry for the 20 mile race and really enjoyed it. I wasn't put off by the fact that there were two circuits, and found the second 10 easier than the first. Probably due to sensible pacing.
No problems with the toilet facilities which were adequate. The Marshalls were very friendly and encouraging, and the drinks stations were situated at just the right places.
A generous goody bag, but a bit disappointed that there was no engraved wine glass, as had been received by running friends in the past.
I suggest that the race organisers make runners aware, in their race pack, that they should allow extra time, in case the level crossing gates are down. This does cause a long tail back of cars, and as there is a mile walk to the start from the MoD car park, late arrivals could well miss the start. Date of review: February 18, 2013
In short: military organisation In full: lovely run, really really well organised, lovely marshalls. my 1st 10 mile run, was hard work but well worth it. great training for the reading half! Date of review: February 17, 2013
In short: Boom!!! Broke 2:30 so I am happy!!!! In full: This was my target 20 miler (as the next 3 are off road or horrendously hilly) and I knew what to expect after last year, ran an avg/pace of 7:26, my target for London is 7:24, so I was well happy and the course did what it said on the tin.
Good organisation by RR, pretty good value, decent medal and chip timed so can't moan for £21.
Whilst it wasn't warm today it certainly wasn't cold and it was very sunny. Water in cups wasn't really sufficient for me personally, could have done with some bottled, even if only on the water stations on the 2nd lap. However, I can see why the organisers don't do this as entirely agree with the previous comments about littering. If you can carry it for the first 12 miles you can carry it for the last 8, or dispose of it with your cup at the next water station, appalling!!!
Mile 5-6/15-16, and between miles 7-9/17-19 there are some sneaky inclines, whilst not noticed on the first lap they do take their toll on the second lap and need factoring in if your aiming for a time.
Will be back in 2014, Well done RR!!! Date of review: February 17, 2013
In short: Very well organised scenic run. Great prep for a spring marathon In full: Parking/organisation very good. Very well marshalled all way round. Crowds thin on the ground so you have to be very self motivated especially if you are doing the 20mile. Positive: course, and organisation Negative: start time (would prefer 9:30) and crowd support. Date of review: February 17, 2013
In short: Very tough second lap In full: Cannot agree more with previous rating which comment on the runners littering. Its easy enough to hang onto your rubbish and drop them off at the water stations. We love to sun these scenic routes, now please lets have the decency to leave things as we found them. Thanks to the Marshalls and water staion volunteers for a great job Date of review: February 17, 2013
In short: Fantastic marshalls, well organised race HQ In full: This is a very well organised race along quiet roads with only mild undulations - much less challenging than say the Hemel 20. Lots of marshals and good support in the village and plenty of water stations. Race HQ is excellent with good changing facilities, bag drop and cake/sandwiches stall. Received the best goodie bag I've ever had on any race. Only organisation hiccup was the parking; queued for 20 minutes to get in and the marshalls were a bit thin on the ground. Also much further away than the 10 minutes stated!
One negative (not the organisers fault); I was very disappointed to see just how much litter (mainly empty gel packets) were dropped by runners. One local in the village I saw was understandably disgusted but it wasn't just there; especially on the second lap there were empty packets everywhere. There's no need for it. Perhaps the race organisers can encourage/threaten but as runners we do need to be better behaved Date of review: February 17, 2013
