In short: What half marathons should be like! In full: Pre race organisation and web site excellent. The stadium start and finish was excellent great atmosphere and crowds on Eccleshall Road (congrats to the female singer, I thought you were brill!). Ok its not the most scenic of routes but it goes through the city centre which most "city halves" don't. Not really fussed about the cup thing, although bottles would have been better. My only 2 slight niggles are what you get for the fee and the toilets! I think a medal and tshirt would have been in order, if there can be only one then a t shirt! And more toilets please! However these are only minor moans, all in all this was an excellent event and despite the distance from Norwich I'll be back!!
In short: Enjoyable city run In full: Plus points: * Easy to get changed, bag storage useful * Great to start finish at stadium * Easy parking, providing you arrive in good time. * Good support from Sheffield folk, especially Eccy Road. * Nice to have a medal.
* Would have liked an energy drink at one of the stops. Also would prefer bottled water. * A bit expensive, though don't mind if profits go to charity. Couldn't find Red Bull that folks were talking about afterwards!
In short: Excellent day all round..good course. A little twisty in places but not too lumpy it does have plenty of straight lines to get up some speed. The finish in Don Valley Stadium gave a nice warm feeling. Date of review: April 28, 2008
In short: A great event, good atmosphere and support. Nice long down hill at half way. Just what is needed to spur you on.... In full: Stadium a great facaility. Pity more toilets were not open Date of review: April 28, 2008
In short: Enjoyed it In full: Good race. Scenery not the best in parts but the route OK, as expected really. Water stops not great plastic cups not ideal. Stadium good but finish seemed to lack atmosphere this year. Eccalshall road bit good again. Would of preferred Tee-shirt rather than medal, organisers state "medal by popular demand" not demanded by me.
In short: Sheffield proves its metal with an enthusiatic big event In full: This event is BIG with nearly 5000 entrants but in spite of this the stadium venue gives it a great atmosphere for competitors and spectators alike ! The best and hardest part was the turnaround stretch with a climb that goes on for nearly a mile with big crowds out to cheer you in both directions follwed by three miles of downhill. The finish is a helter-skelter of ascending and descending loops round the stadium and a track finish! A special run Date of review: April 28, 2008
In short: Where were the mile markers??!! I only saw them at 3, 10, and 12 miles which made pacing even miore difficult. Not very scenic but the start and finish at the stadium was nice and atmospheric. Date of review: April 28, 2008
In short: Good race apart from the rain and the queue after the finish line In full: The race was quite good but at the finish line there was quite a queue to get through to the chip time/medal area. They had also ran out of the silver foil blankets before 2:08. Also there was only water at the stops and at the end, not something you would expect from a big city half marathon. I would have also preferred a T-Shirt than a medal. Date of review: April 28, 2008
In short: A great CITY event, In full: This is the most improved half marathon I have taken part in for over 10 years. This is a brilliant city course with a start & finish to go with the event. Brilliant support / crowds up Eccleshall road that give the half way stage and great atmosphere ! Date of review: April 28, 2008
