In short: Unique In full: I used to live around these parts (Epsom, then Headley), and used to train in the area, so love the countryside. The facilities are great, only slight quibble was about the water station, nobody to hand out water (and if I stop it takes me a long time to get going again), I dropped 8 min off my previous 2007 time, so pleased with this as a checkpoint for my training for marathon next January.
Very friendly, but maybe not a race for beginners. Date of review: November 22, 2009
In short: Great race, cheap as chips and well worth it! In full: Friendly marshalls and good fun race. Course description describes the last few miles as undulating but I would call them hilly! Be warned to save them for the end. Roads are not closed but are plenty quite enough to not course any concerns. Date of review: November 22, 2009
In short: Quite hilly but the scenery and unique race headquarters made it well worth the effort! In full: This was my first 10 mile race and I would definitely do it again. Miles 1 to 4 are pretty tough with a more or less constant incline but the scenery males it worthwhile especially the sweeping view of the racecourse on the final descent! This race must be pretty unique in being able to use the jockey's weighing room as the race headquarters - great facilities! Good race organisation and friendly, encouraging marshalls en route. I'll be back next year! Date of review: November 22, 2009
In short: Praise to the marshalls In full: First time doing this, wanted to run it for fun and very glad I took part. Enjoyed the Queens Stand Race HQ and the race route was enjoyable. Very much like the Dorking 10 I suppose. Marshalls were fabulous in the weather conditions, and were well supporting throughout the course. The start was a shock, suddenly standing there and then *parp*, we were off. Only downer was the weather, but this is out of the organisers hands - well worth doing if you need a 10 mile spin in late November. Date of review: November 22, 2009
In short: Great race, pretty hilly but not too tough. Not exactly PB potential but snot too slow In full: This was a very scenic race. It was fairly hilly but they were not killers. The hills were quite long and consistent which made them easier, in my opinon, than the shorter really steep ones.
I liked it and would def do again. The only slight problem was the congestion at te start and the fact that if you started at the back you would lose some time off your official time but it depends how important that is to you. Date of review: November 20, 2008
In short: The scenery make the challange of the hills worth the effort. In full: The hills are challenging but the views worth the effort. The marshalling was excellent. The start was rather chaotic. Nice to go to a race where there isn't a huge queue for the loos! Date of review: November 17, 2008
In short: One of the best finishing strech of any race I've done. In full: That view as you come over the crest of the last rise of the switchback and can see your way to the line - all downhill - never fails to inspire.
I agree that the start could be improved - wouldn't it be possible to start the race on the service road inside the racecourse? Date of review: November 17, 2008
