In short: Superb!! In full: Take it easier up the hills and cane it back down them and I think you could do a respectable time in this event! It is tough, but the scenery and the friendly marshalls really make it a special event.
Garmin tells me it is about 1500 ft of up and down (not all in one go) which is nearly half a decent lake district peak.
Thanks to the organizers. A great event. Please feel free to save money by not bothering with the medal. A T-shirt is appreciated, but a medal unnecessary. Date of review: July 20, 2010

In short: If you like running... In full: Forget the PB's and the roads, enjoy the countryside and feel a great sense of achievement in finishing such a hard race. Not as steep uphill as Midsummer Munro last month so this allowed more running rather than hands on knees walking. Date of review: July 19, 2010

In short: Oh My God!.. In full: That hurt, a lot!..
I've done this race the last few years, never carrying an injury and thought I could just wing-it, but this course is so unrelenting. A survivor's medal is more apt if you could have seen me hobbling over the finish line. All the comments by other fellow runners is true, this is a tough race. The only thing I would change would be to have a Mars Bar at the end, nothing else mattered to me after 13.1 miles of slogging. Thanks BVR for this amazing race. Date of review: July 19, 2010

In short: Very tough but satisfying. In full: Very well organised and a great, tough route.
Only gripe was the bottleneck at the style after c 0.5 miles. Was stuck there for a good 3 minutes!! Date of review: July 19, 2010

In short: Challenging course in beautiful area and well organised. In full: First time at this event. Saw it rated highly in RW and decided to 'give it a go'. Superb course with plenty of challenging ups and downs. Mostly run in shady areas and on wide open tracks. Road shoes OK for this if weather has been dry for some time. Well marked course with plenty of drinks stations and Marshalls. Simple medal to finish and in the grounds of a local School with toilets and changing facilities makes it an event to mark on the yearly calendar. Two minor suggestions for constructive feedback; 1) the 'crossover' in the last half a mile wasn't very clear as to the direction to the finish. Thankfully i guessed where it should go and was right. However, a clear sign pointing the direction with a further sign before the car-park crossing by the road would be a great help to make the route clearer. One could easily have taken the track off to the left instead of going straight on. Someone else was pointed in the wrong direction by the Marshalls and did an extra mile. Not good when you have already run almost 13 miles on a tough course.
2) It would be good to have 'age category' prizes in addition to the memento. I don't do events for the prizes, but it is a good way of recognising achievement, particularly in tough events such as this. It may also encourage others to take part who wouldn't normally.
Hopefully, this race will gain in popularity as it really is one not to be missed.
Thanks again to all the organisers, Marshalls and helpers for putting together a superb event. I may be back! Date of review: July 19, 2010

In short: A real favourite In full: Organisationally, this is great - parking right by the start/finish, toilets, showers and drinks, and a couple of delightful pubs nearby for afterwards. The course was scrupulously well marked throughout with arrows, chalk markers and a few descriptions on signs. Excellent marshalling too - marshals on all the main turns and road crossings, and drinks stations frequently.
My only comment would be that the web site is a bit terse about it and the results are a bit slow to get posted - I like to see these same day.
The course is fairly tough if you're a flat road runner but not excessively so. It's a tough narrow start with a couple of stiles to negotiate followed by a hill, then some long gentle downhill stretches where you can really fly. A couple of short sharp climbs, and a tougher long climb up to the summit at 9 miles; there's then a shallow but long climb towards 12 before hurtling down to the finish. The surface is nice too - fairly firm, with just a few sections of loose stone; managed it fine in race flats and certainly no real need for trail shoes.
An excellent race - one to look forward to.

In short: Great race - as always. Superb organisation. In full: Very, very, tough race but organisation is excellent and the course really interesting with soemmcracking views when you (eventually) reach the highest point. A gem of a race. Date of review: July 19, 2010

In short: Challenging run In full: A challenging route around the Surrey Hills on a beautiful summers morning. Thank you to the organisers for providing a smooth, well signed race and a big thank you to the marshals for your encouragement, it was much needed!
