In short: A privilege to run with this support in these fabulous surroundings In full: Only my second Lakeland Trail but I am hooked! A near perfect course (I and others around me were surprised at how quickly the 4k marker was reached as mostly up hill) The organisers are to be congratulated for going ahead despite gale warnings - it just added to the challenge and we all held on to each other when a big gust came! The finish along Coniston water was magical and my slower time means I am finishing as the leading runners from the later start are coming through adding to the buzz for me. In short: The best one yet - despite the appalling weather conditions In full: Strange as it may seem, I find that trail races are usually not the best way to enjoy the scenery as you have to look where you're going! However, on this route there were places where the track was sufficiently smooth that you could look around and enjoy the fabulous views. The climb out of Coniston village did not seem as hard as some have suggested, and the effort was rewarded with spectacular views across coppermines valley. The ascent was followed by a flat(ish) section below Coniston Old Man and then a long downhill stretch towards Torver. The last couple of miles was a level run in through Torver woods and Coniston camp site. This is definately a race I will do again, but I hope that next year it is not as wet and windy! In short: Fantastic Race In full: Gales, hailstones, rain, mud, sunshine, stunning scenery, great organisation, fantastic atmosphere – which all went to make this the most fun I have ever had in a pair of shorts!
Well done to the organisers for getting this on despite bad weather earlier on in the day.
Hopefully back next year to do the series.
