In short: Good value, good PB potential and my home race! In full: I know a lot of people have been disappointed with the scenery but I happen to like it. Running through streets beats running through dull country lanes any day. I though the course provides lots of variety, twists and turns with long straights, city centre and suburban settings. I always find it novel running round the ring road too!
The course is largely flat with a few good hills and slopes to add interest and good PB potential.
I also thought there was really decent and encouraging support out, although I do sympathise with the marathoners...it must have been pretty lonely on the 2nd lap.
The only negative points I would make would be the need for time-zoned starts to reduce congestion and a much better medal...it was shocking!
In short: Good run, well attended, great atmosphere at the finish. In full: Finding the place was tricky, with poor road signage around the town, and parking in the stated car park was limited due to building work. Having arrived/parked (later than expected)I feared the worst....BUT the run itself was great. Some scenic parts along canals, through parks, some less scenic, including a tour of the 'burbs. The kids mini marathon was great and the prizes they received were exceptional. My wife had no problem entertaining them whilst I ran. Free photos available online, so no rip off sky high photo charges. I would thoroughly recommend this marathon to others, but I'm not sure I will do it again. My training fell apart four weeks before the race due to the summer holidays.(I'm a teacher). Perhaps I shouldn't blame the timing, but my lack of discipline?! Date of review: September 7, 2011
In short: a good event In full: Don't take any notice of the grumpy old farts writing poor reviews, this event is good value, well organised and not a bad event at all. Some people are never happy. Date of review: September 7, 2011
In short: Dull In full: Run was dull, scenery lacking, running through housing estates made it feel like more of a training run. Water stations adequate. Could have done with isotonic drinks on offer. Medal was cheap, t-shirt unimpressive, and good bag not great either. Date of review: September 7, 2011
In short: Boring and best avoided In full: Has gone downhill since the course was changed in 2009. Sampling the "delights" of Penderford on cycle paths isn't my idea of a good event. Atmosphere was non existent in parts. I should have done Kenilworth instead. T-Shirt is below average and medal is cheap and nasty. Date of review: September 6, 2011
In short: Good VFM with definate PB potential. In full: Don't be put off by the scenery score.I don't know about you but I never take much notice when racing anyway,I'm too busy dying on my a**e.This is a flat course with PB all over it and a cracking good day out for 17 quid.Bostin. In short: Pleasently suprised, good organisation, quiet on the second lap In full: I was doing really well up to 17.5 miles then Cramp set in... this gave me time to see what was going on around me a bit more Some of the St Johns were really helpful ready with a bucket of water and sponges for cramped up calfs some were sitting around having a rest break, even when asked some just shurgged and off I went in pain (thankyou fro those who helped - also for the spectator who pressed the cramp out of my legs when I was lying in agony on the verge of a busy road) Marshalls were well spread out encouraging and helpful some of them were unsure of how far the next water was but not a major problem. The first lap was busy with spectators and runners but the second lap when the half marathon went in died down to the bare minimum... 300 odd of us runners spread out over 3 hours... great reception for the finishers, could have done without having to hear the finishers at 13.1 when I still had 13.1 to do. I do sound a bit of a maoner probably because I had a painful race but overall I was pleasantly suprised with the race, not a hilly course but one with gradual inclines at several places not much of a problem, Oraganisation was great, nice to have water bottles, Marshaling was pretty good (but I think they were pretty bored by second lap but sill encouraging and smiley) Nice finishing straight. I would have liked to see any local physios with a massage table at the end I would have paid my money for a leg massage :o) thank you Wolverhampton Date of review: September 5, 2011
