In short: Great for charity/fun runners....... In full: ......but not one for the more serious runner. That said this one is all about raising money and paying tribute to Jane and her legacy.
Positives - great atmosphere at start/finish, interesting and quite challenging course profile, nice t-shirt, plenty of money raised for charity.
Negatives - pre-race info advised parking at Clay Pit Lane which proved to be inaccessible due to road closures. NCP (nearest alternative) laughing all the way to the bank at £5.80 a pop). I was unable to walk in front of the Art Gallery to get to the green assembly area and was told to go to Millenuim Sq even though that's not where I needed to be. KM markers need to be much more visible and course was 10.25KM (the same for everyone on the day but makes it difficult if you are running to a schedule or to compare to other 10Ks).
Overall, I'll be back (to support the Tomlinsons) but Leeds City Council need to improve to organisation (suggest they speak to Great Run people and mimic Manchester and Yorkshire 10K mass participation events). Date of review: June 23, 2008
In short: Enjoyable In full: My first experience of the Leeds 10K and i found the exprience really enjoyable. As a beginner runner it was steeper than i'm used to. My only quible was the organisation at the end as i didn't know where to go or what to do once i crossed the finishline. Someone did hand me my goodie bag but i didn't get a finishers t-shirt nor could i find the race officials who would, according to the guide i recieved before the race, give me my official time and position. Other than that though it was a brilliant experience. Date of review: June 23, 2008
In short: Chaos at the start bit otherwise brilliant!! In full: Did this for Jane Tomlinson and her family - reading Jane's book inspired me to take up running seriously and this year I run my first marathon. The race was fine except that at the start we got moving very slowly - then actually stopped at the first corner and had to walk for a couple of minutes - then spent the first half of the race dodging people - but that was fine - this was about raising money. The support was awesome, the bands along the route superb and the general organisation of the day perfect - well done Leeds!! Date of review: June 23, 2008
In short: Great atmosphere, Wonderful day In full: A fitting legacy to a truly remarkable woman! Enjoyable day, difficult to get a PB as it is congested at the start, I didn't notice any markers until 5K Date of review: June 22, 2008
In short: Has flaws but still really enjoyable. In full: Better start arrangements this year. After the finish it was chaotic as there was no real queue to get your goody bag/t-shirt or hand in your chip. Had to ask where to go for things. Gatorade in cups during the run was not a good idea. No markers seen until the 5km marker. Probably being picky as still thoroughly enjoyed the run and atmosphere. Date of review: June 22, 2008
