In short: Hard race - enjoyable apart from the hills!! In full: Thanks to everyone to helped out at the race. I agree with the comment about adding another water station at 5miles. Also would it be possible to move the 7 mile water station so it's not at the start of the last big hill? Date of review: May 14, 2008

In short: Lovely scenery, enjoyable run...but very hot!! In full: I was hoping the weather would be a little cooler for this one, but it seems this was one of the hottest days of the year so far!! Nevertheless, I really enjoyed myself and got a fairly decent time. My only gripes would be firstly, the mildly chaotic water stations - I didn't manage to grab any at the first as it appeared to be crowded by young kids and scouts (who weren't even helping by offering cups to passing runners!)and secondly, the rather disappointing water bottle at the finish line. Even a t-shirt would've been a more rewarding memento of the event. Date of review: May 13, 2008

In short: Nice undulating race, though the May heatwave was not nice In full: Well done to Alton Runners, well organised event. The heat absolutely floored me and it was a Personal Worst since New Forest 10 in 2005 (Also a scorching hot day). Date of review: May 13, 2008

In short: DNF'd due to injury In full: Was appalled to hear that a water station had ran out of water only half way through..... these things should be sorted. Apart from that an OK race and was looked after very well by the St John... Thanks. Date of review: May 12, 2008

In short: Challenging course, pretty scenery, Hottest day of the year so far! In full: As i am sure everyone felt, extremely hot and difficult conditions. I wouldnt say that the course was majorly challenging, but with the heat added in, made it very difficult. It also didnt help my race, when i was attacked by a fellow so called teammate at the bottom of the big hill just before 4miles!! Didnt feel much like carrying on much after that! I will definitely be back next year to get near my goal time of 75mins on a challenging course! Date of review: May 12, 2008

In short: Not worth the trip for a plastic water bottle. In full: Normally and without exception I have nothing but praise for any organisation that manages these events but to get to the finish line after a gruelling, continually undulating/hilly 10 miles in 28 degrees and be offered a plastic water bottle for my efforts when I was already carrying one in my right hand was a bit of an insult. A milk bottle top with a piece of string through it and letters cut out of an old newpaper spelling the two words Alton 10 would been a more appropriate reminder of my achievement. It is a tough run on a cool day, come on Alton Runners, reward participants with something better than a water bottle. Date of review: May 12, 2008

In short: Hilly and Hot In full: Well organised, very hilly race through pleasant country lanes. Given the weather today a sponge station or an additional drink station, or bottles of water instead of cups would have been great. Thank you to the lady who gave me some of her extra water at 8/9 miles, it was much appreciated. I was feeling the effects of the heat and there were many runners out in the sun for longer than me who must have suffered more. Drinks bottle as a memento was a good idea, though the nozzle does not work properly and drenches you - which was very nice to cool you down straight after the race, but not so practical for future use! In short: Hot, hilly and err even hotter. In full: Well marshalled, but considering the conditions a very serious lack of water at second water station. The water bottle at the finish was a little disappointing although very useful.
With the exception of the water stations the event was very well organised - a thank you to the marshals for all their work, I suspect they weren't much cooler than the runners! Date of review: May 11, 2008

In short: Oh boy it was hot In full: A very good event, far too hot and hilly to even think about a PB. A real achievement just to finish this one, "undulating" doesn't really do it justice. An extra water station at 5 miles would have been fantastic, but in normal weather I guess it wouldn't have been so necessary. Thanks to all the marshalls & organisers. Date of review: May 11, 2008

In short: challenging race for all levels of runners, do NOT underestimate the term undulating, an extra water station would have been useful for the heat today In full: Have done this about four times and definitely the hottest for me this year. It's popular with our club being localish so another draw for me. Gorgeous countrysite, not too much traffic and well managed where there was. Could have done with another water station (I know logistics might not allow) for this year alone as many runners were coming in beyond sweating!! Hope the guy who passed out big-time at the end is now OK. One for levels of runners, pacing essential, and 'undulating' has a degree of understatement about it. I will be back tho', as ever.
