In short: Need to sort the baggage tents, but otherwise a great race In full: I've rated this as a good value race because I want to highlight the fact that the race organisers set up a system of reduced price entry for local clubs. It was a great gesture and nice to see a big race with a corporate feel trying to keep in touch with local runners. I hope they keep the system going!
Only glitch was baggage reclaim at the end. No criticism of the cadets who were manning the tents, who were all very polite and helpful, but I think there needed to be more of them so that bags could be found more quickly. It might also help if numbers were allocated randomly rather than in projected finish order so that there aren't clumps of people all queued up by one section of the reclaim tent.
Otherwise, a flat course and decent organisation. A bottle of water and a chocolate bar from the goody bag kept me amused in the baggage queue! Date of review: May 20, 2012
In short: Fast course, excellent organisation In full: My first ever race and one that convert any non runner based on the flat course, the brilliant organisation and awesome atmosphere in the last 3 Kms.
The organisation is very professional given the large field (9000 runners). From the race packs received very early, wave starts, water stations and clockwork like post finish trail (silver sheet, medal, powerade, banana).
I have now done 5 half marathons and 6 10Km races and have entered next month's race. Bristol got me hooked on running! Date of review: April 17, 2012
In short: Well organised In full: First 10k and enjoyed it. Well worked by putting 4 waves groups, from elite/profession group down to beginner/novice groups. Nice route from the quayside out to the suspension bridge and back. Weather was mild but a spectators cheering you on. Nice promotional stuff from Lucozade. Mainly flat with only one incline. Definitely do again. Date of review: June 30, 2011
In short: Very enjoyable In full: This is a fast flat course and I got a great PB over 5 minutes faster than Frenchay a few weeks before. Great Technical T shirt at the end, one I would actually wear, and organisation relaxed and efficient. Date of review: May 22, 2011
In short: Well organised big race, really enjoyed. In full: Thought the race was really well organised; good route, good bag storage, didn't have to queue too long for for the loo (if you picked the right queue) and the funnel system at the end was good as it kept you moving once over the finish line.
Expensive to enter but appreciated the good quality T-shirt and medal. Could have done with splitting the start up a bit more by expected finish time as it's quite a narrow course and even though I started in the right pen it was sometimes difficult to pass people who were running more slowly. Could affect the potential for a PB.
Would definitely do it again. Date of review: May 17, 2011
In short: Fast out and back with good support In full: I ran it hard and was pleased to beat my 2009 time by a minute. Faded a bit during kilometres 8-9, but was uplifted by jazz band opposite the Shakespeare. Thanks to all marshalls and spectators. The race is very well organised and, unlike Bath, has the space to do so. Date of review: May 16, 2011
In full: the tech t-shirt was worth a tenner alone - no complaints about the marshalls - they are only responsible for the spot they are stood on and cant be expected to know much else . the race guide book told you everything you needed to know and more , read it next time . just one small change , the water stations should be at 3k and 7k , not just one at 5k .
