In short: Great event .. In full: Great location very mixed terrain. Up to Leith hill tower you have relatively straightish track on okayish ground. After the tower it turns into a twisting turning up down and all over the place broken up trail, really tested my knees. You have to be alert all the time can't switch off. On a number of occasions I uttered the magic," words never again.." Great support from marshals and other runners gets you round this course. Needless to say I will be back next year.
In short: Tough In full: I really like this race, but if only I was quicker! Its a challenge to meet the cut off so the rest of it is always a slog. But even in bad weather (not in 2014 for a change!) its still a very good run. Date of review: October 28, 2014
In short: Great scenery In full: My first time doing this race and thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is tough but stunning, the marshalls friendly, and the out and back route means there is a great camaraderie between the runners. Will be there next year. Date of review: October 27, 2014
In short: Tough but what an amazing experience. In full: This was the running event I'd aspired to a couple of years ago (with no more than an annual 10k to my name). And this weekend the Greensand was my first trail marathon. Yes it was tough and from mile 18 a slight groin strain and back issue added to the gritted determination to complete it (I was that lone runner chanting to himself to keep moving). But overall what a great race: Dr Rob's superb organisation, brilliant marshals, "Jerusalem" warm-up, gorgeous autumn colours along the top of Wolvens lane and great views from Leith, Holmbury & Pitch (you can't just stare at the ground in front of you), and finally the late cooked-breaky...what an awesome day! In short: This is the best running event I have ever participated in (and I have done plenty over the years) Fantastic course, magnificent views, and a very friendly atmosphere. I'm still buzzing from it...awesome Date of review: October 27, 2014
In short: Fantastic trail run and challenge. In full: Excellent trail conditions, weather, marshalls, organisation, breakfast, medal, running top, hat and encouragement from other runners and spectators. Nearly went on my face a few metres from the start when the hill bit me on looking back to wave to my wife - now that would have been embarrassing! Third year in a row for this event but reckon that last year's torrential mud fest event was more of a challenge and exhilarating with this year having ideal running conditions but more obstacles/traffic due to the good weather. Many thanks to my wife for following me round the course to encourage me and other fellow runners. Excellent!!! Date of review: October 27, 2014
In short: Truly memorable first marathon In full: Was sent to photograph this event back in 2011 for Runner's World, and decided I'd love to run it, although at that stage I could only manage a 10K
3 years later, and I proudly raised my hand on the start line as one of the 3 first timers at the event.
It's a stunning route, and a superbly organised event, I'm over the moon to have got round it in 4hrs 48, and will quite likely be doing more in future.
The hills are relentless, even allowing for the "out and back" nature of the route, but thankfully the conditions were cool and dry.
Well done Dr Rob, and huge thanks to all the marshalls, as well as my fellow Runners. Think we might need to introduce a cut-off time for the singing of Jerusalem next year though - it dragged a bit in the 2nd verse! Date of review: October 27, 2014
In short: Great race if a bit painful In full: Superb organisation and fantastic marshalls. Certainly need every bit of encouragement to not only reach the cut off at Leith Hill and be able to go on to finish the marathon distance, but also to finish the race. A brilliant event. The opera singing Jerusalem at the beginning was excellent and cannot believe there were 2 or 3 people running this as their first marathon. Total respect and to those who had run Beachy Head the day before. I'll be back next year to run this on my own. Must talk less and run more. Date of review: October 27, 2014
