In short: Superb event In full: I chose Chester as my first Marathon after Liverpool was cancelled in 2013 and based on the rating of being the Uk's No1. Now despite my lack of ability to compare to any other Marathons, I would say that Chester is a worthy holder of the No1 spot.
The time of year (early October), makes for a very pleasant summer spent training and a warm and sunny lead up to the race.
The organisation was excellent throughout. Great iconic location for the start and finish of the race makes it extra special. Plus with it being a lovely sunny day for race day, being able to sit down on the grass and soak up the sun whilst waiting for my post race massage was an added bonus.
Course was well laid out and a good mix between quiet spots to just get your head down and busy villages full of cheers and support.
Superb atmosphere throughout the race and so much more that made the day and the race extra special, including:
*Good quality goody bag, medal and Technical T. *Tented village at the end to wander round and soak up the atmosphere. *Sports Massage for £5 at the end (all money went to charity) which was a god send and lasted far, far longer and was of much better quality than I would expect for £5. *Amazing support in all the villages. *Good amount of parking, making that side of things hassle free.
The one and only negative from my point of view was how long it took to leave the car park at the end of the day. This took far longer than it should have done and with some co-operation with Cheshire Police could either be eased or even possibly sorted all together.
That's a small negative point though in what was a fantastic day.
In short: Brilliant race. First marothan last year, second this year, will be back next year! Organisers and marshalls thank you very much, and the supporters, particularly in the villages! Date of review: October 12, 2013
In short: First road race over the fun marathon distance. Good mix of busy areas with lots of spectators willing you on, but also quiet parts where you could just settle into your groove. This is not a FLAT courses. There are some ok up hill sections. Date of review: October 12, 2013
