In short: soooooooo much better
In full: Much better than last year, new route brilliant but PLEASE sort out the spectators crossing the course- its not fair on them or us! Apart from that it was fab and a PB for me too!!

In full: Huge organisational improvement compared to last year's race. New route much better. Special thanks to all involved at the baggage storage area, very smooth drop off and pick up. Only complaints: Not enough loos and published results sorted by finish time not by chip time! (what is the point in having a chip!)

In short: Good race, good day
In full: Started at the back which was not good, had to navigate round a few oblivious runners taking up the width of the road but no real problems. Really liked the ascent to Roedean then coming back into Brighton. Torture at mile 10 when the pier never seems to get any closer. Nice atmosphere, much preferred this route to the one last year, the weather helped as well.

In short: A lot better
In full: Did the sussex beacon back in 2007 and in 2009, and the first was great, the second was terrible. Thankfully, the organisers have got rid of running round the lanes and back onto the roads. All good stuff on the course.

Good baggage, good start finish, and I'm not bothered about the t-shirt or goody bag.

One very minor gripe would be moving the first pen from sub 1:25 to sub 1:30. Yes, there were a bunch of plodders in sub 1:25, but then there's always going to be, isn't there. Poor deluded souls. And at least there was enough space on the grand parade for them not to block the path of those faster.

In short: Good way to start the year
In full: Despite the freezing weather I enjoyed taking part in this race, I read negative reviews on past races but wanted to give it a try anyhow.
Course had PB potential (it did work for me!) despite a couple of hills in the first 4/5 miles.
Organization was not bad at all, plenty of lucozade, water and bananas. Shame no goody bag or finisher's cotton t-shirt to remember the day, it would be nice to have it included in the fee rather than paying £25 (which I regret) for an average technical t-shirt which I had to swap as their S size for an XS which was still HUGE!!!!
More loos were needed and it would have been nice to have people adding toilet paper at times. Urinals were perfect as it meant queues were mainly ladies and that was going relatively quick..
Loved the percussion bands which kept our spirits up.
Will keep an eye for improvements in the future year and might do this again.

In short: Much better than previous years
In full: They got it right this year. Wide, flat, fast course. Good organisation at start/finish. Decent medal. Would be worried about in increase in numbers next year as course was pretty full at around about the 2hours running mark.

In short: PB All The Way!!
In full: This is the second time I've run this race (previously Sussex Beacon) and I ran PB's both times! Nice flat course with fantastic support especially around by the Pier which is great motivation for getting you over that finish line that seems to take forever to cross! The only qualm I had was with the 1 or 2 of the marshals on the seafront. I saw a Pregnant lady try and cross the road during the race and ended up getting bumped into by 2 people. The marshal could have been a bit more on the ball but didn't seem to bother by the incident. This wasn't fair on the group of runners who all had to slow to avoid the incident and to the woman who was heavily pregnant (she was fine by the way). Having said this, it was an isolated incident and from what I saw the rest of the marshalling was very good. On the whole, a very enjoyable day for runners and spectators and I'll definately be there next year!!

In short: Speedy course if the wind stays away
In full: Much better course than previous years, definite PB potential if there's no wind and this year there wasn't.

The organisation was much improved on last year's chaos and it was a good idea to have the baggage so far from the finish.

The starting pen times seemed a little random, there's a big difference between 1:25 and 1:40. Having said that, people seemed to largely ignore them which could be a problem if you're going for a specific time and line up in the correct place when everyone around you hasn't.

A lot of people running with MP3 players which is annoying and dangerous. Seems to be happening more and more at bigger races

In short: Good weather and course for PB potential
In full: Weather really helped today, pretty much perfect conditions.

Organisation not too bad, bit chaotic post finish line and not quite enough toilets pre start. Also too few marshalls for the first half, I was with an injured runner, and it seemed to take ages for anyone to arrive.

Whinge over, I got a PB by 10 mins, and will definitely be back. Loved it.

In short: Slick organisation from start to finish; pb potential course; defo do again
In full: What a pleasure! For once a race that didn't cram in too many people and so, yes, of course you had to run round people to pass them, but there was plenty of space to do so without bumps; very well organised; started on time (a rarity often now); lovely breeze off the sea; pretty flat the whole way; great shorter 'long run' for the marathons in April; would definitely do it again.
