In short: Good HM with good scenery and undulating hills!! In full: First HM since Oct due to injury and prep for the Brighton and London Marathons. Enjoyed the day and the Park & ride was excellent. Atmosphere was good but not anymore and the overall experience was good..more hills than I expected and would do again.. Date of review: February 19, 2013
In full: With just a couple of minor tweaks, this race would be fantastic.
Getting from the baggage pen to the start was more difficult owing to the number of non-runners present, so reserving that area for runners and volunteers only would be beneficial. There are a couple of pinch points at the start of the race and again at the end which meant running at the average pace, but overall the numbers of runners is about right. What wasn't right though was the lack of water stations - one at three miles and another at eleven was just not enough for we runners who prefer gels, and all that was needed was water as an option at an energy drink station.
However, I'm nit picking here. I really enjoyed the race and will definitely be back. Date of review: February 19, 2013
In short: Great race In full: I love the Brighton Half, not least because the start line is a ten minute walk from my house. Parts of the course do get a little crowded but the support is brilliant and the new 'grandstand' make the sprint to the finish line a little more fun. Date of review: February 19, 2013
In short: Well done organizers, much improvment compared to last year In full: Good, fairly fast course. First few miles are rather congested, and again a few narrow point towards the end of the race. Good organization, however I do agree with previous comments that getting from the bag drop area into the starting pen was a bit frustrating due to many spectators obstructing the way. Great weather this year, hardly no wind for a seaside race and good crowds made it worth a trip to Brighton. I think I'll be back next year. Date of review: February 19, 2013
In short: A huge improvement on last year In full: Well done to the new organisers! The baggage drop off and collection ran like clockwork, predicted race time coloured numbers and clearly marked starting pens really helped at the start and most importantly the race was the right length this year! Just one small thing though, need a water station, not just lucozade between miles 3 and 11. Date of review: February 19, 2013
In short: A Great Season Opener In full: Perfect running conditions and a very welcome sea breeze for the last few miles. I really liked the water "bottles" - they were squeezy things, but had a good water flow. I'd have liked the lucozade and water stations the other way round, but that's just a personal thing. Friendly atmosphere and I think 10,000 runners is about right. Good bag drop off locations and good route. I really liked the park and ride from the race course, it meant not having to get stuck getting in and it also made for a quick getaway. A great way to start the season, thanks to all the organisers. In short: Better than last year In full: I had vowed not to run this again after last years dissaster of getting the race about 1km further than 13.1 miles! However this years race was much better organised and the support from Brighton was fantastic - Thanks everyone! although i made sure i did the racing lines on the course i still measured 0.1m too long - but thats within reasonable tolerance for me. Looking forward to Brighton marathon now..... Date of review: February 18, 2013
In short: Well organised 13.1 mile/21.1km race by the seaside In full: Well I'm fairly sure they had their cones in the right places this year. Nike+ is clearly rubbish, and a discrepancy of 0.1 miles really is within acceptable limits of GPS inaccuracy/runners' weaving capabilities! A reasonably quick course, bit of a long but gentle drag in the first few miles but then a lovely long gentle back down and flat along the front. I guess the race is always prone to sea breeze and it was certainly blowy coming in to the finish, but all-in-all an enjoyable race, and Brighton will always have a good atmosphere (if the sun's shining!)
