In short: Good race, great route and smooth organisation. In full: My only complaint is the lack of carparking near the event, I like to take my disabled son to events and it can be hard work sometimes.
Other than that I had a fabulous day, the sun undoubtedly helped!!
Good organisation and excellent facilities make this a fantastic event (having said that more toilets would have been nice). But who can fault the big tent, the masseurs, the warm up lady and great PA encouraging everyone to welcome the finishers.
The marshalls deserve a special mention, well done to all, thanks for all the encouragement but it still didn't help towards a PB, 3 minutes away!!
In short: Well organised, lovely flat course, achieved a PB In full: Weather was superb (in fact a little too hot!) - no pleasing some people! Organisation was excellent, loads of marshals. Thought that there could have been more water stations in view of the weather. Nice touch re toilet at 9 miles, but it would have been nice to have had more than 1. Fantastic medal. In short: First HM ever for me (& my partner). Enjoyed the day, quite well organised, very lucky with the weather (it could've been bitter without the sunshine). In full: Nice gently undulating course, reasonably well signposted although mile markers 3,4 & 9 were missed by many! Decent medal but could do with a goodie bag for 15 quid. If you're in the market for a HM at this time of year you could worse than this event. Date of review: March 19, 2006
In short: Enjoyed it, had nearly all the bits, including hot dogs from the scouts In full: Good course, right number of people. Beginners enclosures ignored as usual. Shame still plastic cups on the MANY water stations. I think you could have had just two if they gave out bottles so you could actually drink without stopping.Still enjoyed it and got a PB. In short: Poor race taking advantage of the 'pre-London' marketing In full: From start to finish this was a disapointing race. Poor organisation; trying to get 2,000 runners to the start line through woods 15 mins before start time was not a great idea. White mile markers on street lamps are not the most visable signs, and on water stations! making it hard to guage pace. With several roundabouts and traffic calming features not taped off the roads were difficult to manage in places. On crossing the finish line, exhausted, you were expected to instantly hand back the chip and tag before being given any water. On reaching the water I was distressed to find that there was no food e.g. bananas or mars bars being given out which personally I felt was dangerous. With a race of this price you would expect this and a goody bag. However the bag store tent was very efficent and the course was marshalled by friendly stewards and good crowds aided the race atmosphere. Overall I felt that this race organisers wereresting on their laurels that runners would take part due to the 'pre-London' marketing of the race. Date of review: March 19, 2006
