In short: Loved it In full: Incredibly friendly locals who didn't seem to mind standing in the torrential rain cheering, clapping and handing out biscuits. Coming into the village of Leigh was fantastic - felt like a carnival.
Really well organised and lovely scenery (from what I could make out through the drizzle). Fairly hilly but still managed a pb.
A nice touch of Olympian glamour with Kelly Holmes handing out the medals. Date of review: September 28, 2012
In short: Great race! In full: This was a great race. My 2nd time and got a pb!Great amount of toilets at the start and 1 at miles 3,6 and 9. Could maybe have done with 2 at each but I didnt need to go which was good!
Is very hilly but the hills are short and manageable, and always follow with a downhill!
The people of Leigh were amazing! It was absolutely pouring down but there were so many people out who were cheering and clapping like they were your family supporting you. They really helped. The volunteers/marshalls were great too. All really friendly and also clapping and shouting well done etc.
Love this race and will be back again next year. My garmin did measure it to be 13.22 though. Date of review: September 27, 2012
In short: Enjoyable, well-organised race! In full: This was my first half marathon. I was nervous due to the 2011 reviews mentioning that it was very hilly. I loved it though! the ups were followed by some lovely downs and the course was really enjoyable. The marshalls and locals were all friendly despite the weather and it was really well organised. The College was a great base to change and leave bags and getting a medal from Dame Kelly Holmes was an added bonus! Date of review: September 26, 2012
In short: Enjoyed it In full: More room in the college this year, compared to the school last year so that was better. Shame the weather wasn't as nice as last year :) Date of review: September 26, 2012
In short: Exhilarating! In full: My first half marathon so I was a bit apprehensive, but it couldn't have been better! It was certainly 'undulating' as described, but there were plenty of down-hills as well as up-hills. Even the lashing rain could not spoil the glorious countryside and wonderful villagers who came out to cheer us on. The marshals were amazing, standing for hours in the rain to support us. The baggage facilities were run with military precision. The highlights for me were the lovely Dame Kelly handing out the finishers medals - and the runner dressed as a giant Garfield!
