In short: Great course, great organization, great fun In full: My first HM. Thoroughly enjoyable day. Great organization, with race HQ, carparks and loos all close to the start. Lovely flat, scenic course. Very efficient and enthusiastic personnel on the drinks stations - really appreciated the sponges. And someone even remembered to order perfect running weather! In short: Wonderful scenery and gloriously flat - fantastic for my first half! In full: Really enjoyed my first half marathon at Lake Vyrnwy. The weather was perfect, the course was almost totally flat (with an incline that I didn't notice in the first mile but that I really enjoyed coming back down in the last mile!). The organisation was great and the home-made sandwiches and cakes at the finish were very welcome. Date of review: September 10, 2007
In short: My fave half marathon event In full: Perfect weather, cloud cover, 18C, gentle breeze. Good spectator support in the first and last miles. Am I the only finisher who didn't get socks in the goody bag? Date of review: September 10, 2007
In short: First half marathon - won't be my last In full: Lovely flat course for the most part, didn't notice the incline on the way up to the dam as everyone was still grouped together but it was great coming down it after mile 12, picked up a little extra speed with gravity as my friend! Couldn't have asked for better weather, overcast, cooling breeze, although it did get warmer towards the end (in my case after around 2hours). Organisation was excellent, plenty of loos at the start, water stations were nice and regular (although I was expecting one at 9 miles and cruely had to trudge on to mile 10 before it appeared oasis-like through the trees!), Scenery was beautiful - I've walked round the lake before in February but running it when all the trees were in leaf was spectacular. It was a bit disconcerting crossing the dam after a mile and a half as I could look across the lake and all I could think was "I'm supposed to go all the way around that?!" but it ended up being so much easier than I'd anticipated (I never thought I'd use words like "easier" and "enjoyable" in reference to a half marathon!). The only sad thing was before the start you couldn't hear the tannoy from the back so missed the start of the minutes silence.
All in all though a thoroughly enjoyable day - I definately want to try it again next year :o) Date of review: September 10, 2007
In short: It was well worth the drive from Kent that morning! I definitely want to make this an annual event but I have to say to the people who think that the course is tough need to come and run Hastings or Maidstone. Sorry, I know I sound biased but reall Date of review: September 10, 2007
