In short: Positives: great atmosphere, lots to keep you interested on the course and a decent goody bag. Niggles: course was a couple of miles shorter than expected and got clogged up with loads of slower runners starting too near the front. Still fun though!
In full: This race is loads of fun despite the niggles and gripes about the shorter than expected course and the congestion on the way round. The crowds of spectators are grand and there aren't many opportunities to jump in the smelly bog ditches of Delamere on a normal Sunday morning. If Puma can keep the distance up and improve some of the on the day niggles linked to wave starts then it could become a really good event. At the moment I'd say it was 'fun'.

In short: Tough course, good fun but poor organisation
In full: Have to agree with everthing said previously. Good atmosphere, tough run through great scenery but let down by the parking, the late start, none of the stewards knew anything. Sort it out guys, this could be a great event!

In short: As fabulous as ever - but why was it so short?
In full: Hell up North has been my favourite race for some years now, which is why I ran today despite having cracked ribs. So while in some ways, the shorter distance was welcome (my Garmin called it at 8.88 miles, rather than the usual 10.5) I still felt slightly cheated. And parking was an absolute shambles. However, it's still a wonderful race, which will draw me back next year, and the good spirit and friendliness of everyone I ran with today made this another great experience. But Puma, if you're going to keep expanding this awesome event, please get the logistics sorted; and also, please don't advertise it as an 11-miler when it's actually less than 9. But hey, I've still signed up for Hell in the Middle, 5 minutes after getting home, so please don't read this as a totally grouchy review. Hellrunner is still the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

In short: Ok, not as advertised, too short, too commercial
In full: I was really looking forward to this but it didn't deliver what it promised.
Distance can't have been more than 9 miles they said 11. Congested with too many slow runners going at the front. Parking terrible.
It was fun but could have been so much better!

In short: great fun event but a bit commercialised
In full: Gripes: Parking situation seems a bit of a farce, when I got there for the pm race people were parking anywhere they could fit....
Course was less distance than stated (10 miles) judging by my time of 1.16 I think probably no more than 9...
Fifteen minute delay for start was disappointing.

Good Things: Fun Fun Fun!!! my type of course with plenty of humps, bumps mud and single track.. I was expecting forest tracks so was delighted by this. Lots of lovely mud and bogs. Excellent goody bag and nice T-shirt,(dont want medals) and the post race recovery shake was a nice touch.

In short: It does exactly what it says........already signed up for the middle
In full: Muddy as hell, difficult to run, above the waist deep bogs, but exillerating. My only complaint is the fact that the begining was a little dis-organised, both waves went together but we weren't told this until 5 minutes before.

In short: Was great last year, this year poorer
In full: This race was great (Last year and the year before). This year the run itself was good although is now shorter (for no reason). Getting in and parked was HELL, took ages and parked in muddy field. Getting out to the main road took an hour and was Utter HELL, no marshalls, no plan and too many runners. Far too many competitors! the only way to save this race is to slash numbers next year. Hope Hell in the Middle is MUCH better! Was my fave race for 2 years but now an also ran :(
