In short: Tough challenging course over the South Downs In full: I found this 27 mile marathon much harder this year even though I would say the weather was a major improvement on last years rain and sleet over the downs. It was very hot and windy and at times it made the up hills even harder than they already were but hey ho small price to pay. As usual the organisation and the course were both excellent and challenging at all times and I for one will be back again. Date of review: May 2, 2011
In short: A great varied course with a nice breeze on top of the downs helping keep the overheating at bay. Superb organisation and very supportive marshals - In all a great day. Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: Hilly, Hot and Tough In full: Superbly organised, extremely well marshalled and signposted, incredible scenery and very tough. The hot weather didnt help but a really good challenge. I wouldnt expect a PB on it though!! Will definitely be back next year. Thanks to all the marshalls and organisers. Great post race cake and flapjacks Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: Hot, hard, hilly but good In full: Phew! T'was hot out there today! Even so, I still managed to cope with the course (I did the half marathon), which I have run twice before, and came in at a reasonable time; not bad considering I had done little training. So, I could still cope with the big hills and the heat despite that. Wonderfully organised, it was good to see plenty of jelly babies at the aid stations this year, something that several runners have been requesting. A very welcoming event. Lovely cakes at the end...mmmm!! Super medal as always. Roll on 2012. Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: hot, hilly friendly. In full: apart from the narrow start, no complaint's good scenery, hilly as expected on the south downs, nice atmosphere, well organised with plenty of cake and refreshment, nice weather, and a medal from the mayoress, happy days. Date of review: May 1, 2011
In short: Bad Weather but usual great event In full: This is a tough event but made more difficult by the weather. Organisation and Marshalls were great. Thoroughly recommend this to those that want to take the next step from road marathons. Date of review: May 5, 2010
In short: Tough it is In full: Well I knew what to expect, and wasn't let down.
Must first say a big thank you to the marshalls. It was a horrible day to be standing out there like they were, so thumbs up.
Very much a low key event, certainly compared to big city marathon, but to me, thats part of the attraction. Was fantastic to be up on the Down with almost no one else around .I felt the weather added something else to the event. Certainly meant we had the Downs to ourselves.
Good amount of water station, though don't expect too many mile markers. They did seem to have them at significant parts of the course though.
Didn't seem to be much going on when I finished, though perhaps the weather and my slow time didn't help.
I was just happy to get back to my car and get the heaters on :) Date of review: May 4, 2010
In short: Despite the rain and the mud this was a fantastic run! In full: The rain was relentless, the tracks were muddy, but it was such a joy being up on the Downs. An added bonus was the great selection of cakes at the end. The marshalls really do deserve medals though, especially those out on the full marathon route. Date of review: May 4, 2010
In short: superb - all the marshalls deserve medals ! In full: Well organised"Tough One",despite the weather the organisation was very good and coped well, with a well marshalled route/plenty of drink stations - the rain stayed all event - the clouds were very low at times which made it very different - even had an odd glimpse of some of the great scenery !
