In short: Lovely undulating course with personality a few things need updating In full: Great course lovely scenery, some challenging hills and wind (on the day i did it) so not a PB course for all. great Tshirt and some personality in the race. Sponge station was a nice touch but no bag drop and cups of water at the water stations mean it could be more up to date to really north lincs, robin hood and now even chesterfield HMs locally Date of review: October 26, 2014
In short: A very scenic Half Marathon In full: I entered this as my first half marathon and enjoyed it so much i have decided to enter again for 2014. The marshalls are very friendly and offer plenty of support when you are flagging towards the end and the are plenty of people on route to give you some encouragement. I would reccomend this event to anyone. Date of review: September 30, 2014
In short: Fantastic race, hopefully doesn't rest on its laurels In full: A personal favourite for me but some niggles have started to creep in. No information was sent out in the post so first-timers here were seen asking where to pick up numbers etc. There is also the annual issue of EXTREMELY slow runners going to the front, and in such a narrow start, this can cause some barging. Other than those minor issues, the course is great, roads closed and finishing t-shirt is great. The weather always manages to hold up for this race, though the wind and some drops of rain tried to spoil it a little. On a personal issue, I blew up big time - the old age adage of "you get out what you put in" has never been so apt - if you don't train properly you will struggle, especially on this unforgiving course!. In short: My home-town half In full: This was my first half marathon in 2008, and this year is the first time I've done it since. I'm from Worksop, so it always warms my heart to see a good turn out and hear praise for the event. I was undertrained for this, life and illness having got in the way in recent weeks/months, so I assumed my usual place at the back. Sparken Hill should be renamed 'Evil Hill', but once that was out of the way I was determined to enjoy it, and enjoy it I did. I was 30secs off my PB (Silverstone 2013) so really heartened by that, and was very grateful to Louise from Newark Running Club who I ran with for approx. half the run. Without the company I think I would have dropped my pace considerably. I will definitely be back, if not next year then definitely in the future! Really well organised, loved the funny placards along the sponge-station and the marshalls in fancy dress. Very proud Worksopian! Date of review: October 31, 2013
In short: A credit to the club and the town In full: 4th time for me at this event and, even though I had a `mare, I can`t fault this race.
It is undulating with by far the toughest hill in mile 1 but this means a nice downhill finish. If you run well the layout of the course can mean you can push for a quick time over the last 3 miles. Lovely alpacas in the park and the funny placards!
At the end, tech tee, bottled water, pen, kitkat, in a cotton bag. Great value. "I`ll be back!" Date of review: October 29, 2013
In short: Everything you could want and at a reasonable price too In full: It's a beautiful route and this more than makes up for the odd hill, but it does make a PB unlikely. Traffic free on the public roads and large parts in the Park meant the only hazards were a couple of posts in the park. Messages at the water station are great and all the marshalls were highly involved - the fancy dress is a nice touch. Technical T shirt could be better quality - sewing on mine really poor, but I might just have been unlucky. Still think it's a good race at a sensible price and would do again. One I'll do again at some point. Date of review: October 28, 2013
In short: Excellent race In full: I've now clocked a PB and PW on this course, so really can't blame the route ever again! Well organised and very friendly; good marshals, slick water stations and plenty of pockets of uplifting support. It's a good route, though a bit slippery where the leaves have stuck to the wet road surface! Date of review: October 28, 2013
In short: Second time at Worksop for me, won't be the last In full: Very windy today and going up the hill between miles 10 and 11 into the wind was brutal and it almost stopped me getting a PB (which I got by 30 seconds). The scenery is great and the volunteers help you round. Date of review: October 27, 2013
