In short: Great scenery and fast course but tough nonetheless In full: Weather made for a good race but to describe this as flat isn't exactly true, no major hills but a couple of smalls climbs made for interesting running. My major gripe was the course length, my Garmin measured 13.37 which totally threw my pacing out. Looking at my watch at 13.1 miles and seeing the finish line in the distance was not a nice feeling. I would expect a couple of metres diffence but not 400 metres. Still got a PB but that's down to more training and definitely think Cardiff is the course for speedy running. Scenery great but would agree with comments about being mentally tough watching the speedsters going the opposite direction when you can see you're not turning for a quite some time. Would do it again but I'd be more prepared next time. No problem with the car park for me in and out in a jiffy but we were very early!! Date of review: March 8, 2010
In short: Nice scenic run- leaving bit of a nightmare In full: Enjoyed the run, 1st half great, not so keen on the second- found it quite tough all the little sections as you turned the corners. Got there early as thought start was 11am and had no problems parking but leaving was awful! Would have preferred a snack bar to a magazine but thoguht organisation as a whole pretty good. Was really pleased whether was kind after stories of hail from previous year Date of review: March 8, 2010
In short: great race - organised and freindly In full: nice coastal route with some great twists and turn but never ending path to final turn. The breeze was not strong but certainly made an impact when head on - nearly got a PB but thoroughly enjoyed it Date of review: March 8, 2010
In short: Fantastic weather, great scenery, smooth course In full: Great day out. Loved the event, the surface, organisation and the weather. Few more hills than i expected. Distance came up as 13.3m on my Garmin watch Date of review: March 8, 2010
In short: Fantastic race In full: This run was so well-organised, and despite the support being centred around the middle sections (due to the loop aspect of the course), this run was fantastic. Beautiful scenery (very, very lucky with the weather this year), and was a good course to do a good, fast run. Very friendly atmosphere, and definately worth it. Looking forward to next year! In short: Fun In full: Great day for it, slightly breezy at some points and the undulations can prove taxing. Major problems getting there at a tidy time, even though we had left plenty of time. Struggled to get a tidy spot pre race which left a slight scramble to get up to a tidy pace, ultimately leading to me finishing just over my PB.
The weather was superb on the whole and really helps make the even what it is. I found the markings for the 10-12 miles slightly strange. The terrain around the final turn can be hard going coming up towards the final push home.
Great Day though, thankfully my girlfriend had managed to park near the exit so we got away pretty sharpish. Date of review: March 8, 2010
In short: Shame about the car park In full: Really good race which got spoilt at the end as it took us 1 HOUR AND A HALF to exit the car park. It was a complete disaster. There where no marshals anywhere and I would say about 600 cars all trying to exit through one gate. It made what was a great day turn sour. I also agree with the comment about the course being long. Both my partner's and I Garmins both reached a half marathon about 200 meters before we reached the actual finish. A few meters difference you can expect but not 200 meters out. I also nearly got run over by a bike athlete as when they turned round to come back the path was quite narrow and you couldn't see them coming. They definitely need a lead bike to clear the path for them (and us).
