In short: Water station fiasco!! In full: Organisation was ok but those flimsy half filled cups at the water stations were a joke. A serious flaw on such a hot day. No wonder a guy was almost passing out at the end. Is a few extra quid on some larger sturdier cups that do not crumple when grabbed too much??? And if you can't give awaya decent shirt don't bother!!! Date of review: July 28, 2008
In short: warm and humid - but some cloud meant it was not too bad! In full: Good flat course - and 9.30 start good idea. Three water stations and sponge at 9m very welcome! Quality field, well organised, helpful marshalls. Finish on track good idea. Date of review: July 28, 2008
In short: Top notch organisation, but tough in July In full: Faultless organisation, encouraging marshals, great facilities at the sports centre, and a mildly undulating course. A hot day, but that's always likely to be the case this time of year. Nice finish on the running track. T-shirt will get worn to the gym! Date of review: July 28, 2008
In short: Tough In full: No support and the laws of physics seemed to be denied in that we seemed to climb (albeit slowly) much much more than we descended. The heat was very challenging. Very clubby, but extremely well signed, marshalled, and great changing facilities. Date of review: July 28, 2008
In short: Nice country lanes course In full: I liked the course, nice country lanes and quite scenic in places. Undulating but no really steep climbs. Three water stations plus a sponge station that also gave out water was ample on a very hot day. Great track finish and good changing/showering facilities at start and finish. Marshalls were all great :-) Date of review: July 28, 2008
In short: Not for me. In full: Through no fault whatsoever of the organisers (due to the impossibility of running through Harlow) I really didn't enjoy this one this year. The dreadful humiditiy didn't help but the course I just found horrible. It seemed to go gradually uphill for the first seven miles with occasional flat stretches & I've no idea where the downhill parts were that were on the profile.
The course was quite dull this year, just endless miles of trees adding to the humidity, added to that the gravel tracks & sloped roads put paid to any chance of a quick or comfortable run and the cups at the water stations - esp the 5M one barely had any water in it.
On the plusses, the organisation was brilliant again, flawless infact, the venue is so much better than the old sportscentre & the marshalls were top notch - some of the best you'll find, very encouraging & faultless, so many thanks to all of those.
But there was little if any support for 90% of the course, (because nobody lives there) not even any houses. There's plenty of runs through fields every week, Harlow is a good town run (although miles 2-5 of the last couple of years slightly altered that), hopefully they'll revert back to more of the town / town park & support next year when they're able to.
Most importantly of all, best wishes to the three victims of the heat I saw, there was no shame in struggling today - I've done marathons far easier than just the 10 miles today. Date of review: July 27, 2008
In short: o,k. did P.b.! In full: Very clubby, but friendly, hot day,and quite a hard route, goiod marshalling, but crap t-shirt. Did a PB, but would only do again if nothing else to do! Date of review: July 27, 2008
