In short: My first sub 1.30
In full: This is the third time I've run Bath and the first time I've trained properly for it. In previous years, I've shied away from winter training and used Bath as a kick start to training for events later in the year.

Disaster nearly struck though as I foolishly trained hard on Saturday and the pain in my left knee rendered me virtually immobile. I had committed to bring a friend and decided to run the first mile and see how things went.

I ran out quickly towards the front of the pack and any signs of pain disappeared after a couple of hundred yards. After four miles I was two minutes inside a potential sub 1.30 and tagged a couple of guys who's splits were virtually clockwork 7 mins. After 9 miles, I was expecting to luck out and something disastrous to happen. At the 12 mile mark with just under 9 minutes available, the reality of my first sub 1.30 became tangible. 1.29.27 on the clock, 1.28.53 chip time. Needless to say my favourite half marathon to date. Great weather, fantastic crowds, brilliant organisation.

In short: Very well organised; super goodie bag
In full: First time for this race and thoroughly impressed. Start pens seemed to work well for me. I saw all mile markers and Garmin agreed their position and my chip time. Shame it didn't help me do a PB - back to the training.

In short: Well organised. Good race. New pb so well pleased!
In full: 2nd time I've done this half. On the whole organisation was good. More toilets needed. Baggage collection could have been better. Good course and great support. New pb for me after recovering from injury so well pleased.
Would definitely run it again.

In short: Very well organised
In full: Enjoyed the race. the pens were a good idea, only disadvantage was their limited space to warm up and keep warm while waiting for the start.
first time I have run the new course and it was nice to go round queens square rather than the housing, later in the loop. The large number of spectators were noisy and encouraging

In short: Great for 1st run
In full: Had a great run. My 1st time. Support throughout was superb. The park and ride was not he easiest to find for those not from Bath but a minor quibble. Ran 1.52 which I am very happy with and will be signing up for next year.
Would like to thank the guy in the Borat thong for making me laugh just as the 2nd lap began. I was also told that the same guy helped motivate someone to continue who was wanting to give up at mile 12. Sums up the spirit of the run for me.

In short: Good race - shame about the baggage
In full: First Bath I've done and 99% of the organisation was great but the BIG exception was the baggage. It was probably OK for the faster runners or those with supporters so they could get some clothing but that is not everyone. I was around the 2 hour mark and it took 40 minutes to get my bag. I was very fed-up and shivering by the time I finally got mine. Other races use the labels to put bags in numeric order as they are handed in, not thrown in a huge pile so retrieval relies on telling someone what colour your's is and shouting when you see it as they root through!!

In short: Good start & finish area's and a flat, fast course.
In full: This is the second time that I've done this race. Just like last year I was impressed with the organisation, marshalling and the runners village in general. The baggage storage wasn't working brilliantly this year but it wasn't through lack of trying from those doing it. I love the start and finish for this race, and the goody bags were great this year. Oh, and I clocked up a PB to boot. Roll on 2008!

In short: A couple of hills for a flat course - but great!
In full: The course goes past my house twice and having been a supporter for many years I thought it was time to run the thing. Thanks to all the supporters - especially those on the Lower Bristol Road opposite Matty's Cafe - they didn't just cheer their mates! There will never be enough toilets and you'll never keep everyone happy, but there are plenty of cafes and hotels really near by people could have gone to. Thanks for a really well organised race - they even came to take the signs down that evening! I have no gripes, but why did it feel like I had to run up a hill to get up to and round Queen's Square, up to the turn around at the end of the Upper Bristol Road and at the end!!??? ;0)

I will be back next year - it was great.
