In short: Tough but worth it In full: It was my first time at this marathon and oh what a race it is. Running through and around Hawkshead lead me into a false sense of security as was happy just enjoying the views and even found the hills ok because as soon as you was up you was going down again and even at mile 7 i was ok but then all change when we turned at Newby Bridge. Crowd there though was fantastic and the shouts and cheers you got were amazing. All the way back to about mile 22 was relentless long slow hills and then a little down for what seemed forever and i must admit the last 4 miles were torture for my legs but finished it in under 4 hours which was my target so was very happy at the end. This was a PB for me but the only other one i have done is Great Langdale. Fantastic race and will absolutely do it again without a doubt as the thought of a flat marathon bores me. If you like a challenge but with added glorious views this is the one. Also 10 in 10 runners i bow down to you as we are not worthy, you are totally inspirational even though maybe a little crazy!! In short: A challenging route with plenty of fantastic scenery - wonderful atmosphere! In full: This was my first marathon, and I think it's safe to say that it's got me hooked! It was organized so well, and everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. The organizer said that he thought there were 'just enough hills' and I would be tempted to agree - the course was undulating throughout, but none of the hills were real killers, and it kept it interesting! Plenty of refreshments for everyone, plenty of support around the route - I can't wait to do it again next year!! Date of review: May 22, 2012
In short: Stunning scenery, great organisation, great people In full: A trip around Englands largest lake was always going to be wonderful and this race did not disappoint. I set off with the crowd at too fast a pace for the training only to be cut down to size by the hill at mile 21. Organisation great, people welcomming and a great charity to run for. Those guys running the 10 races in 10 days were truly inspirational. Date of review: May 22, 2012
In short: Absolutely fabulous! In full: My first marathon, and a tough one to choose! Still shattered today and not sure if my toe nails will ever recover (note to self, pack nail scissors next time!). Fabulous scenery, great organisation, my family enjoyed the fun day, just a great day all round. Hats off to the 10 in 10ers, one trip around Windermere was tough enough. Date of review: May 21, 2012
In short: FANTASTIC! In full: I knew this was going to be tough..nursing an injury however the organisation, scenery, weather and 'feel-good factor' carried me through a very painful journey. I do Snowdon marathon on a regular basis..Windermere now comes very, very close to being my favourite. Thanks to the fantastic team that organise this event, very slick esp. on a warm Sunday afternoon when everyone and their dog descends on Windermere. Goes without saying, 10 in 10ers are inspirational. Date of review: May 21, 2012
In short: Hills? What hills? I was looking at the views! In full: The venue-beautiful. The support-immense. The hills? Ok, there were one or two but I found on the most part that you were swiftly rewarded with a little downhill so nothing too bad. It was my first marathon and I'm so glad I picked Windermere. Even the police found time to encourage us even though they were busy doing a fabulous job controlling traffic. I really really can't fault this race and it has carved a beautiful place in my memory. Thanks to everyone who helped out and well done to the truly inspiring 10 in 10ers. I'll be back :-) Date of review: May 21, 2012
In short: Spectacular In full: Beautiful scenery, excellent organisation, well spaced refreshment stations, very friendly atmosphere - I can't fault anything about this race!
The "undulating" course is pretty challenging in places, but that just added to the elation when finally crossing the line. And the 10 in 10ers are awe inspiring; to do the course once is an achievement, 10 times in 10 days is simply amazing.
