In full: This was my first half marathon and I thought the course was great. I live in Gosport and have to say I was running in places I have never been. The marshals were great and encouraging and thanks to the Gosport Samba Band, it was nice to hear them around the ten mile mark as you knew then you were close to the end. The goodie bag was the best I have ever had and puts the Great South Run's to shame. I will be back next year to try and beat my time.

In short: Speedy Flat Course
In full: I PB'd (always a bonus) at this race as did many of my Club mates this is flatest Half Marathon course I know of. Sad to see some of the fastest runners (Read on one of the ratings below)got lead of course by the lead cyclist and confused by the course. I don't run that fast and read the signs and directions from the marshals who did a super job obviously some of the fastest runners are concentrating so hard on running they actually forget to look where they are running. This is my second run at Gosport and I have never had a problem understanding the course. I think the start was much better than last year, the new Sea front section and the band added to the atmosphere and made the race slightly more scenic. I enjoyed the added water feature (couldn't be easily avoided) and even saw a rainbow at one point. The goody bag, stuffed with food and the medal and Key ring was a great for a race of this price, the race organisers have obviously taken on board some of the complaint from previuos years and sorted things out which is Great. I would recommend this race to a begginer wishing to run this race as their first Half, due to the terrain, even though this race is a bit club orintated due to being part of the Hampshire Road Race Leauge. The only thing I think that could possibly improve the race next year is chip timing, however I beleive this would add to the cost of the race by a few quid. This would be helpful to slower runners at the back and possibly make clearing the finish area a bit quicker.

In full: The marshalls were the best and most supportive i've ever come across. The baggage drop and pick up great. Goody bag was the best Ive ever received.

Not the most scenic run. Very winding too. Shame about the 'lake', however I didn't run through it as it would guarantee blisters! But there is nothing the organisers can do about the weather.

The start was terrible, there was a blockage at the end but did not really matter. Water stations great, prepared and ready!

Needs chip timing. i would happily pay an extra couple quid to have it.

well done every one!

In short: Misdirections for the second year running.......
In full: Pancake Flat (but coastal so will normally be windy) course, but very complicated including two similar laps of the airfield, completed after 3 and 7 miles.

This meant that as a faster runner we were effectively lapping the field between the 7 and 8 mile points.

At this point the runners in 2nd and 3rd went off course altering the final result and individual standings. It's difficult to call how the race might have ended up but one of these two had earlier been taken offcourse by an additional 200m following the lead cyclist while leading early in the race.

In short: A quick couse for runners who look at their watches, rather than the pretty flowers
In full: The last few miles down the seafront were a pleasant distraction for that most-punishing part of the race, but in general this felt like a serious running race for the serious athlete.
I can understand why the event is geared around club-runners - the pre-race talk was all about times rather than landmarks on the way - and it has that competitive edge that many do not, for this reason. If it is a fun day out you are after, or racing as a spectacle, then maybe this is not the race for you, but as a fast course, for fast times, with good organisation there are not many halfs that can beat this.

In short: See you next year
In full: Nearly didn't enter after the previous year, however 100% improvement. Start now congestion free, supportive marshalls, water feature a nice touch (!),friendly atmosphere amongst runners, decent goodie bag.... maybe chip timing would make it perfect
