In short: Tough course but good atmosphere
In full: Bottle neck at start was a real frustration, and together with too wide a time band (for orange starters) meant that there was alot of delay behind slower paced runners.

Very tough finish with lots of bends and a steep hill in the last half k. For me this wasn't a problem and actually added character, Sheffield is after all famous for its hills. Still managed a PB.

Atmosphere was excellent. Marshalls in particular were very vocal, good crowds and the steel bands every couple of kms lifted spirits. Well organised, with bottled water at the 5k station and nice to have 3,5 and 7km splits recorded for you.

In short: Superb atmosphere, well organised, easy to get to.
In full: My first experience of a Great Run event and definitely one of the best atmospheres ever experienced at a race. Live music all along the course meant I could leave my MP3 player behind. The Morris dancers definitely gave the event a quirkiness that you could only get in Britain. Sheffield is a nostalgic place for me and it was good to finally get to run 6 miles in the city with no traffic to worry about. Now looking at doing Manchester next year.

In short: PB potential, too much bottle necking,
In full: This is a fast course, only problems are too much bottle necking, more waves are required and a bad hill right on the finish line. Organisation not the best, not enough signs to tell u where ur going but that can only improve. Support and the bands on route were terrific and a superb medal and t-shirt, fast at the front and slow enough at the back for first timers and fun runners.

In short: Oooo I knew the last 1k would be a killer and it was!
In full: Organisation was amazing. Atmosphere buzzing - I've done a few big races this season but this blew the pants off most of them. Big screen at half way point was fun. Only one niggle - the start was way too narrow and I lost loads of time behind folk who had obviously been a little optimistic about their time - I was in white wave, some of white wave should have been in pink. Great day all said, wish I'd have known about the Continental Market on Fargate aswell - I would have spent the day there.

In short: Great race
In full: Tough hills in the last mile but not overly difficult considering it is Sheffield
Several bottlenecks in the first mile meaning that you ended up running at a slower pace than you want to in the first mile
Overall very well organised and will be running again next year

In short: One of my faves!
In full: Was a bit miffed about this race to begin with as I was place in the last(pink)wave due to predicted time when I entered in Jan.Running has come on leaps and bounds since then so really wanted a pb and thought this may hamper my chances. As it turned out it didnt-got pretty near to the front and managed to get clear of other runners pretty quickly which in turn helped me to get a pb!.Really enjoyed this race.My wife also got a pb!.

In short: killer hill but woth the effort
In full: not the most scenic of routes, but then town routes never are. nice turn out from the locals. not 1000's but enough to keep your head up and legs moving along. will be back next year.
