In short: Tough going but a good run In full: Overall a good challenging route and well organised. The 11 mile marker at mile 12 was a bit cruel :) Thank god for garmins! Date of review: February 8, 2010
In short: well organised challenging half In full: Organised roadside parking, fast check in and just enough loos. Clear starting instructions but a constriction after 100yards made starting at the front important. Quite country lanes, very few cars, with undulations and two significant hills. Enjoyed the race it was quite competitive which pushed the pace. Lots of water points and marshals. T-shirt but no medal at finish. Well worth the trip, well done Lions. In short: Tough race but great fun In full: Patchy training over the last 6 weeks made this feel harder than it should have. The hills weren't as bad as I had expected from the comments on the RW site, but there were certainly a lot of them. I didn't see either the 11 or 12 mile markers, so was delighted to get to the bottom of the final hill and discover I was nearly there. Date of review: February 8, 2010
In short: challenging but friendly In full: This was my first time here and yes very hilly but had that in mind after reading last years reviews so worked on that abit and was really pleased with my time. Date of review: February 7, 2010
In short: Very hilly, killer hill at the end In full: It's a funny thing running. This is one of the hillier races in my calender, but one of the more enjoyable. Stewards are great, Organisation fantastic and I've strangely got a PB ( 1Hr 31 Mins) here for the last two years running. Overall, see you next year (says it all). Date of review: February 7, 2010
In full: This was my first trip out to the Blackmore Vale Half Marathon and I was suitably imprssed with the organization.
Great Parking arrangements enabling everyone to get out quickly without hurting the football ground.
Race started ontime.
Great organization at the finish and on the course.
This is a very well run race and the Lions should be very proud of all of their efforts.
Minor comments to think about.
Directions to the race should provide first timers a little more about how to get there ie provide an address that will go into GPS.. hey I said minor..
Second point is that perhaps we should go a bit deeper in the age groups as this is a highly competitive race for the men's open, over 40's and same for women's. I think folks would be fine if the fee was say one pound more as this would more than cover hardware for all age groups and you could go five deep in the competitive ones.
Great day today.. Date of review: February 7, 2010
