In short: First time and challenging, but worth it. Excellent and friendly marshalls In full: First time for this race and distance. Found the hills challenging; a big thank you for the encouragement from the friendly marshalls and sweeper drivers who accompanied me along the way. It was a great morale booster for my first London marathon training. Glenda Date of review: February 26, 2007

In short: A tough course but very enjoyable In full: The Bury 20 has always been a classic and is great marathon preparation. Its an interesting route and a huge relief once you get past the hill at 18 miles. More toilet facilities would have helped, particularly for the ladies. I Both my daughter and I really enjoyed it thanks to all those concerned at Bury for a great event. Date of review: February 26, 2007

In short: Excellent build up race for spring marathons. Really good marshalling and a great challenging course. Hills at 9 and 18 miles are real killers.. In full: The shuttle bus service was excellent. Plenty of drinks stations on course.
Some plastic sheeting or similar floor covering in changing tents could a a good idea especially as it's often wet and muddy this time of year.

In short: A good barometer on how the spring marathon training is going. In full: One of my favourite races - third consecutive year so it ticks my boxes.
Let's get the small gripes out the way first:- objected to the principle of paying for car parking (rather than the nominal cost of £1.20) as we were only following instructions to use the park 'n' ride. Parking passes would seem fair;
Facilities at Nowton Park were spartan, particularly the muddy conditions for changing (although we were forewarned in the race instructions).
Everything else was first class:
park'n'ride fast and efficient;
clear directions to car park as you approach the town;
loved the 'cross-country' start/finish which was quirky - although a bit dicey when I got involved in a frantic sprint-finish with two others!;
the course was scenic, undulating, a couple of hills (I was enthusiastically warned before the race by one of the lady marshals!), and always something to keep you interested;
great support by marshals/water station helpers/local residents/fellow runner - a good turnout meant that someone was always nearby to try and catch;
unusual momento (orange rather than orange-less last year) although I'm still more partial to the symbolic medal!
Great event, in perfect (rather than the usual arctic conditions) weather, either as a standalone event or the build-up to that spring marathon.
Thanks to Paul and his team. Date of review: February 25, 2007
