In full: Lydd 2011 was a great success. Well done to the organisers big time. The 4 water stations were well positioned, set up and hosted by a committed bunch. The timing worked well on all accounts, a token goody bag was a bonus after receiving a medal and even a hot drink and sit down in doors afterwards! Thanks very much Team Lydd for the race and my new half marathon pb. Don't put a Lydd on it, spread the word! :) Date of review: March 15, 2011
In short: Great. Will be back. In full: First Lydd after moving to New Romney last year. Very impressed with course, water points and marshaling. Everything seemed to run well apart from the delayed start (ps. can we get a horn or gun for next year? 3-2-1-go is just not dramatic enough!). Think cricket club missed out on a excellent fund raising opportunity by not providing food and beverages for sale!
Congrats. Very enjoyable run and will be back next year.
In short: Great PB potential, better organised this year. In full: After reading previous years rating, I was fairly nervous about the organisation here, but despite a few negative reviews here, I think the organisation was on a par with most running club races - a few niggles but nothing serious.
The course is fabulously flat - real PB potential, and a good crowd of club runners to pull you along.
Good scenery, cheery marshalls, and pleasant weather. Well worth travelling for! Date of review: March 15, 2011
In short: Event improving with every year! In full: Well organized race with lots of improvements from past years. Looking forward to returning next year. Thank you St John Ambulance guys for patching me up after my fall coming into the car park. Managed a PB, with a dented pride!
Plus Points Plenty of water stations, not sure how one runner could have missed the middle one just before the 6th mile. Extra toilet facilities Timing chips More support and marshalls
Minus Points Mile markets 6 and 7 seemed out of place. Felt sorry for the later runners having to avoid the car leaving the car park. (would have hoped for better from the front runners and had respect for those at the back). Two sharp turns before the finishing line, very dangerous, should be a straight clear finish.
Keep up the good work, looking forward to more nice work racing in the summer. Date of review: March 14, 2011
In full: The start was a bit disorganised. Waiting around while the kids fun run started and finished making the start of the race late. I think the person that praised the goodie bag must have had a different one from me! I think £16 is a bit pricey. Date of review: March 14, 2011
In short: Not bad, but could be better. In full: To add charm to this race, it needs a few tweaks and little touches that make it feel special and local. For instance, a cold drink in the 'goodies' bag, perhaps a free cup of tea at the finish for runners, the team collecting chip timers at the finish to allow the runners more than three paces before saying, "Can I have your chip?", the children's race to either start earlier or after the main race.....best of luck with the future....some kind and encouraging marshalls along the way.... In short: Shocking organisation on day & parking was really bad, but a flat run ...very dull to run but good for training for a marathon that is about it In full: Couple of comments for organisers: * the parking was really bad the road up to club house, surprise not more accidents should have been blocked off * people should have not been able to leave club when runners coming in, very dangerous and really hard when running over pot holes * thanks for the rubbish chip on ankle me & husband had bleeding ankles from the strap really bad idea * Marshalls ...what marshalls * if going to charge that much to run please organise better and start on time ... no excuse for that *use a speaker system for start of race was really adhoc and unorganised
Have done a number of 1/2 marathons in run up to london marathon and this one was really badly organised, no map either of run so no supports could stand on route, toilets and facilities were not good either.
In short: Good race but with a few tweaks could be great In full: This was my time that I had done this race and my first half marathon. I used the race as training race to see how my training was progressing for the Brighton Marathon. On the whole I found the race very good and have no complaints about the course or drink stations. Althrough I think it was rather cruel to have us run towards a pub only to have us go round a cone and go back the way we have came before we got to the pubs front door!!!! I do however agree with most of the comments about the begining and end of the race. We got to the race HQ early but still ended up park in the town centre and walking because road was grid locked and people were parking anywhere. Once on the field there were no time pens,PA or any real idea where the course around the field was. The 15 mins delay was to be expected but I would of thought that the "fun run" could of been started after the main race had left the field. On returning to the HQ, while the marshalls were helpful, people who had finished were leaving the car park with little regard to the slower runners coming in. There were a few people around the course cheering the runners on which was nice but I feel that to town of Lydd could of done more. I know its not an organisers problem but if a few shops and the pub had been bothered they could of made a killing with doing teas and breakfast for the people start waiting for their friends, husband or wife to come back. Moan over.. I did however manage to beat my expected time and my hoped time, so i was very happy. Date of review: March 14, 2011
